Hi all.

In searching for a rex, and currebtly limited to dealers who will take either my fto or tiller in part ex, I\'ve seen two cars.
The second one was trash imo, idled at 1500rpm whether cold or hot and  had steam coming from the expansion bottle.

The first one though I\'m not sure about. It\'s advertised as having a knackered suspension part, it clonks when you brake. It also seems to clonk going over bumps, from under the floor pan somewhere, quite loud, kinda a thump you can feel.
Also, it\'s done 106000km or so and not had engine work it seems.
It didn\'t overheat on the run I did, the guy selling said that occasionally water drips from the expansion bottle, I saw none and no steam, the car idled at about 800-900rpm. When the car was started from cold there was quite a lot of vapour coming from the exhaust, but it was a cold damp evening and my fto does that too. On the test drive the car seemed to pull well, but the clutch pedel got stuck to the floor at one point and I had to pull over to release it! Also, forth gear seemed \'whiney\', the sort of sound reverse gear usually makes. Got back and let the car idle, no vapour from the exhaust, no add coolant light or buzzer, switched off. Left it for about 10 mins then started it again, fired up straight away and idled smooth.
The thing is this rex is cheap, so I can afford to get work done if needed, the question in my mind is how long till it needs a rebuild? Does it sound like it\'s on its way out? And what could that \'clonking\' be?

Also, I should add that the car was totally standard mechanically.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

TIA... Rob.

All depends on how much money you got to spend really, you are limited by the part ex though. And i would say you should try to sell the FTO first then search for  rx once you have the funds available it would deffo get you a better deal that way???

I\'ve tried to sell the fto but the market seems to be flooded with them at the moment, and mines a tip & everyone wants manual it seems.

Yea you\'re right there the FTO\'s are hard to sell as people have found, theres lots of cheap ones available due to the market being saturated.:(
