Last post by Eccentric shaft - July 31, 2026, 08:47:59 PMAll right. Went and did a test drive. Wanted to make up my own opinion about electric Mazdas & if you're going to have an opinion, better make sure it's an informed opinion.
Conclusion: I could survive if I had to convert to an electric Mazda. The 6e is comfy, roomy, good-looking, well-handling, super-smooth and responsive. It handles bad roads well, too. The fun factor, however, is sort of limited to the jack-rabbit start. You can have a bit of fun in sports mode once you have swithced off all the security (and suicide) features. Should probably add that, even when they are switched on, the "active" features on this car are kept on the discreet side. That goes for plings, beeps, as well as vibration warnings. No need to fight for control of the wheel at any point either, like in a Hyundai (cyclist-killer) or other less prestigeous e-cars...
In short, the 6e is smooth, swift, comfy, pleasant, heavy, and a bit dull. No matter how much I wanted to, I just couldn't shake this nagging feeling of being ever so slightly bored. Guess it says something that it felt really good to get back in the old CX30, playing a bit with "manual" gears and hearing that exhaust rasp again. Of course, had I been able to switch straight to the Rx2, I wouldn't ever have looked back...

That looks like a 1974 series 3. It has the late rear lamps and, I assume, the late or intermediate dash.

Last post by clive - July 27, 2026, 05:55:13 PMAs it's been a while, I thought I would bring an update for all who follow Christine's race exploits. Repairs are coming along after the crash at Mallory and I am revising the nose cone to Mazda RX-8 R3 Spec which will give the car an update whist also looking completely different.
The Engines getting an upgrade as well.
We are changing the heavy cast iron centre plate for a custom Alloy plate being built in Australia by Pac Performance a hugely respected name in the Rotary world and will end up not only loosing some weight but also have a much stronger 3 Rotor Engine .
Sadly, going to miss at least three events at Brands, but hoping for a strong finish for the last races of the season.
Here's the new front end coming along and a picture of the old front for comparison.

Last post by Eccentric shaft - July 24, 2026, 08:06:48 PMNice or not. Decided to completely re-do the fuel pump and filter assembly. Moving it inboard to save it from the dirt and get some ease of access. Meant drilling two more holes in the fuel filter cover to let the fuel lines and wire through. Pump uses the original mounts, but from the top. The whole assembly, filter and all, will be mounted inside a battery box for protection.
