Quote from: Skifledanabit;734520Alright guys,

I\'ve got a 747 split rim that needs to be put back together, after having a good look round google, I got some good info, but I just want to run it past you lot first...

http://www.wheel-whores.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=43&start=0

Questions are;

Where can I get new bolts (or should I bother)?
What style of sockets and what sizes do I need?
How do I keep the rubber beading in that shallow gully without it pinging out every time I try to move it?
What silicone sealant should I use and where?

If there\'s anything I may have missed, please tell me.

Chars!

I am putting together my ssr proffesors at the mo so kinda know what your going thru, i did not replace the bolts just used threadlock on the threads.
I didnt need to use sealent either as mine did not require it.

I know a few of my friends who have put together split rims before and used the normal silicon you get from B&Q for bathrooms the clear version and not had a problem.

You got a pic of the rim i cant seem to find it?

Quote from: Wombat-007;737839Hi All, not sure if this the right place for this thread, but having posted many regarding wheels and offsets here I\'ll give it a try.

Well, finally got the arches rolled today :D and finally got out on the open road for the first time since fitting the new wheels:D:D.

The car drives great and seems to handle sharper, but...... for some reason there is a lot of noise coming from the front of the car (typical wheel bearing humming that increases with speed). It feels and sounds like the wheel bearings are completely buggered.

Would the extra offset and width of the new 17x9.5 et35 wheels show such a weakness in bearings that felt fine before with the 18x8 et 50 wheels.
I have checked clearance (yep it is that loud) and no issues there.
Could this be the bearings or could the tyres on these wheels make excessive noise?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I don\'t really want to shell out £165 a side on bearings if that\'s not the problem

Typical as I had my eye out for some second hand coilovers to drop this sucka that I can\'t afford if the bearings are shot:(

Thanks guys

What tyres do you have ? i found i had the same problem but traced it down to the tyres , i had toyo t888.

Quote from: themightyo;714532Yeah, I\'ve read mixed reviews of bonsaicars. OK a couple of years back, but turned evil recently.

As far as what I\'m looking for, I\'m after a pristine stock or good slightly modified (non-sequential, maybe single turbo) car, but with a standard body, and the timescale hinges on how long my new job takes to get off the ground.

Examples of my ideal car are:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1844775.htm
Just looks so perfect, and I love the blue.

Or this one. Especially this one:
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50564
I showed up just a bit too late for this one. I would have had it at the time as well, cos I was feeling flush. Yeah, I know it\'s a bit more than "lightly modified", but it\'s just about the nicest RX7 I\'ve ever seen.

Hi,

I know what you are saying about finding a FD i myself looked at several including that blue one on the pistonheads link! Which I cannot recommend: (

You will find one eventually after a year of looking and even getting flights to Newcastle i found mine, a stock UK spec FD :)

Good luck with your search.

Quote from: SiH;714992It sounds like you haev bought a set of wheels with a centre bore (the hole in the middle) that is too small, and hence won\'t go over the centre of the hub. There are 2 options available to you:

1. As above, use non hubcentric spacers to get you to clear the centre. The largest slip ons you can run on stock studs are around 5mm, but it depends on the thickness of the hub face of the wheel.
2. The better option - get the centre of the wheel bored out to fit (providing there is enough material around it) - I\'ve had this done and it cost me circa a tenner a wheel at a local reputable engineering shop.

Hi SiH

I did contemplate machining the centre bore to a slightly larger diameter that would prob be a safer option I guess, its just something about spacers that I don’t like !, maybe I am just being paranoid I just picture me going down the road all my wheels will come off or something ! :3Confused

thanks

Quote from: clive;714993Hi Shaq,

Have a look in the back of the wheel in the center bore hole and check there are not spigot adapters that have been pushed in that reduce the size of the hole so they will fit a different car, if not carefully read SiH\'s post

Hi Clive, yes first thing i did was look at the back of the wheel for a spigot adapter but unfortunatly there is not one fitted.

thanks anyway.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem I have, being the idiot that I am I bought a set of 3 piece work equip wheels on ebay and were told they would fit an rx7 (95). :Hammer

The problem I have is they don’t go over the centre hub grease cap!!, I measured the gap between the brake disc and the alloy with a set of feeler gauges and the distance is 3.7mm :reallymad

The questions I have, what are my options?

Can I use 5mm spacers on stock studs will it be safe?

Do I remove the centre grease caps and fit another shallower cap?

Do I fit longer studs?

Or just forget the whole idea and resell the alloys!!

HELP! :(

yeah it is the one on ebay. It has had 8 owners, looks pretty clean.

decided not to bid on it as it doesn\'t have an MOT. I wouldn\'t care if it was some super rare car but I still aint buying a car without an MOT!!

Cheers for your post

Hi,

It is my car I only bought it as a project/run around as I have a FD the car is in good drivable condition. I have put the car on the MRC for sale section now as the highest bidder was a time waster, I will probably re-list it on eBay if I don’t have any luck.

So you were put off because the car has no MOT? fair enough I would get it all done but it is declared SORN, and I don’t fancy buying the seatbelts and fixing the front pipe if I am going to sell it.
I believe it will pass a MOT providing the seatbelts and front pipe issues are resolved.
as far as i can see there is no crash damage.

IF you are still interested, you are more than welcome to come a view the car for yourself.

Here is the advert on MRC I will post up more pictures later.
