Got a bump to come and update you guys,  turbo conversion is finished and we are out racing again.  I have taken on the timing and mapping duties my self and currently tuned to 9psi...  not sure I’m going to need too much more, enjoy the fun from the weekend.   First FTD and also the overall course record:)

Progress is being made:

The turbo is in place on the scaffolding :)

I'm also now the proud owner of a 1974 Mazda REPU...  except it is 3000ish miles away...

Slowed down a little as I cut my finger off with a chop saw...  don't ask...  have been patched back up though and have started making progress again.  A long way behind with everything but hope to have first start in about a month.

The sandwich plate is close to the feed to the rear bearing, it travels from the pedestal into the rear bearing and rear oil relief.

Nope, not needed for motorsport unless your oil temp is too low, in which case fit a smaller cooler.  Oil stat is just one more thing to fail...

Just warm her up well in the paddock at idle/low rpm, simples.

Do you have a working OMP system?  If not then fully synthetics are a no brainier. There argument over :)

If you are then the pros still out weigh the cons for me.  50k mile carbon ash buildup or added protection in a motorsport environment, you make your choices!

You can modify the rear to hold 140 and then shim or delete the front cover bypass, there are some options, with pros and cons :)

Maybe tea and a chat is in order to discuss, I'm happy to make the parts for you.

This is a bit of a religious debate but my advice would be this... based on my experience.

10W30 is way too light for prolonged track use.  Move to a 40 as a min, you should well consider a 50..

Run a very high quality motorsport fully synthetic, I have good results using motul 300v competition in a 5w40 (remember sprinting is 90ish seconds) hence my recommendation to look at the 5w50 for circuit.  Just warm her up well and at low rpm and watch the pressure until hot.

were are you measuring the oil temp? Pre or post cooler?

I would like way more than 100psi over 8k for prolonged use,  I'm running 140psi.

PS - good to see you getting back into the swing of things :)
#13
What max rpm are you running?
#14
What grade/type of oil are you running?  Are you running the front E-shaft bypass valve or an aftermarket delete?

What oil pressure are you seeing in service? Especially at high rpm?

Are you running a modified regulator in the rear position? Which one?

Are you running a modified front cover regulator?

Cheers

Thanks Casey...

One more little gem from this week, hand formed collector, using nothing more than a hammer, some hardwood knocking blocks, vice and a abrasive chop saw.  Welded it with argon back purge, don't want any lumps of oxide heading into the turbo!
