Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Daylight Saving Bill

The ITV programme clearly stated the woman MP\'s proposal was for BST in winter and BST+1 in summer so clocks would still have to be changed.

By the way next week\'s programme is about the emerging north south divide with the line being at Manchester not the Scotland England border!

Whinging Scot here right on cue!

In Aberdeen daylight is 8:30am to 3:30pm in winter and 3:30am to 10:30pm in summer.

The proposal is to adopt BST in winter and BST+1 in summer.

This would mean our new daylight would be 9:30am to 4:30pm in winter and 4:30am to 11:30pm in summer.

Obviously we\'ll fit in with whatever you decide is good for us!

Yes could try that and might help in the winter etc. Just had to get all my shocks changed as Pip said they were the most corroded ones he had ever seen!

A-plan are currently sharpening their pencil to come back with a re-quote.....

Hi,

Just got my renewal for my FD through from A-Plan and it\'s gone up £120 since last year as Heritage Insurance can no longer underwrite it.

I see people are getting good prices from Peter Best but my FD is parked on the street and they don\'t allow that for a classic policy.

Has anyone got any suggestions what I should do? I\'m 41, 23 yrs no claims 3K miles per year no points, mild mods etc etc

Thanks

Sorry John I don\'t but was wondering if you are the white FD I used to see heading into Aberdeen from Kingswells some mornings? Never seem to see that car now. I am occasionally in a Red FD heading the other way but usually a RAV4!

Thanks for all the replies. Not sure how to check the clutch? Is it likely to be the problem given that my aircon was working for a few days after re-gas?

Found a local specialist so will get them to look at it and let you know....

Hmmm, no bubbles at all in the sight glass when the A/C is turned on. Looks like I have no gas which might mean a leak.

Is there anything else that could cause the problem bearing in mind it worked for a few days after re-gas?

Thanks

Hi,

Had my FD\'s air con regassed when I was at WGT a month ago. Worked okay for a few days but now it no longer cools. The compressor seems to be coming on when the A/C switch is pressed but no real change in temperature happens. What could be the problem? Not sure if it was N2 pressure tested when they recharged it. Fuse under the bonnet is okay.

Is there a diagram of the A/C system?

Don\'t think it\'s related but the A/C sensor never illuminates on my Power FC Commander. I recall that this can be quite normal?

Thanks

I didn\'t think MOT testing stations had any discretion any more. They just type your registration into the computer and it sets the limit based on what your V5 says the age of the car is. If you have an M reg that that is first registered between Aug 1st 94 and July 31st 95 so non-cat test is correct.

Not sure you can argue with the tester though - may need to contact DVLA??

Here\'s what I found the regs were albeit 5 years ago!

I use Farburn Motors in Dyce. They don\'t do a fast idle test I\'m guessing because they can\'t find the plug leads! Mine\'s a 96 and gets through every time. Had mine 6 years

I was at WGT last week and showed Pip the Mazda recall notice above. He agreed that it could cause the problem with the solid brake pedal so fitted a new vacuum hose. Only one is needed on RHD cars.

Anyway it seems to have fixed the problem as I have normal brake pedal pressure even after the car has been sitting overnight!

Thanks to mark-ashely for finding the recall.

I\'ll post the required Mazda part number shortly. The hose goes between the servo and the manifold and contains a check valve. Costs £31

3rd generation RX-7's / Brakes not so hot when cold !
January 06, 2009, 12:49:38 PM
On my FD the brake pedal is (usually but not always) rock solid if the car has been left overnight but can be made to  return to normal resistance if pushed a few times. I get a small change (increase) in engine revs when the resistance changes. I\'ve had the fluid, pads and discs changed since the problem first started and a complete engine rebuild at WGT too. I asked Pip to have a look but he couldn\'t find anything wrong. It\'s not a cold weather problem  don\'t think - just the car sitting for a while. Usually it\'s okay in the evening if it\'s been left all day. I just live with the issue. Mine\'s a 1996

3rd generation RX-7's / Pop goes my Rotary

Car is now on it\'s way to WGT so look out for it on a trailer on the M6!

I\'m pretty certain it\'s seal failure because the Map Sensor was still connected (first thing I checked) and there were flames and strong petrol smell coming out of the exhaust even at idle!

If I go for a mild streetport, do I need to upgrade anything else? I have Power FC, cat back and air intake. What benefit would I see?

Thanks
