Cars for Sale / RX7 FD - Fresh Rebuild + Price Drop!
September 19, 2012, 12:58:00 PM
Mazda RX7

My pride and joy for 10 years and I have simply just run out of space having moved up north.

Many modifications, but mainly in the interest of reliability/safety.

Fresh rebuild (May 2012), run in and then subsequently mapped (mapping by "Blitzboy").

MOT and Tax to March 2013.

Full, one off, leather interior including panel trimming as well as usual seats. Cost a packet but I wanted the car to be more a luxury sports than a race type layout (hence boost controller hidden away etc so not to have hundreds of aftermarket dials!).

Spec includes..

Engine:

Engine rebuild this May/June (2012). Rebuild required due to mechanic error when installing turbos rather than engine failure!
Engine mapping this June (by known RX7 mapper Blitzboy)
1680cc Bosch Secondary Injectors with KG Parts fuel rail
New Fuel Pressure Regulator
New leading coil
Extended street porting (intake & exhaust)
Permanent non-sequential conversion including porting of manifold
Inlet manifold porting/port matching
Throttle body porting and secondary flap removal
Brand new GReddy front mount intercooler system (installed this year)
GReddy type elbow
Brand new uprated radiator (installed this year)
Turbo replacement this year (had oil leak so had both turbos replaced with quality used)
New small battery (for FMIC installation)
DM Motorsport sump brace
Uprated RAIT sensor (for quicker reaction to air temp changes)
HKS Twinspark
HKS EVC Boost Controller
HKS turbo back exhaust system (downpipe, mid pipe and tail pipe)
Direct feed to coil and ignitor safety modification
Walboro fuel pump, with rewiring to fuel pump and secondary feed to ensure no loss in power supply on high demand
Strut brace
B&M type short shift
Polished caps
Underdrive pulley
Air pump removal
Filler neck modification to remove AST (common cooling system fail point)
Apexi PFC with commander
ABS
Central Locking with 4 keys (originals + copies)
Thatcham Category 1 alarm/imobiliser (with installation certificate) with 2 alarm fobs
Power steering
Electric windows

Exterior:

Rare CWest bodykit
Fold away number plate
Clear front indicator lenses
HID upgrade, with crystal lens upgrade
Despoilered
Full respray 5 years ago
Veilside hand polished Andrew Racing alloys, with Michelin Pilot\'s on front/Nankang\'s on rear
Bilstein shocks (yellow) with Tein springs
Goodrich brake hoses
Tinted side + rear windows
Clear side repeaters

Interior:

Full black leather retrim (seats, dash, door cards, instrument console, side/boot panels, rear storage bins etc etc)
Rear storage bins (rather than usual rear seats)
Rear strut brace (leather covered)
6x9 speakers installed in parcel shelf
Huge amplifier powering speakers, hidden in space saver wheel well
Touch screen DVD/MP3/Sat Nav/Bluetooth stereo system
RMagic commander holder (leather covered also)
Original toolkit + jack etc

Other:

I\'ll also throw in the following..

Spare, unmolested parcel shelf (incase you want to remove the 6x9s and go back to standard placement speakers)
Aquamist water injection system (was installed on the car until the front mount went in this year. Just hadn\'t got round to reinstalling)
Air conditioning rad/evaporator/etc (again, removed this year for front mount install but all components kept incase refit required)
Apexi twin air intake (again, removed for FMIC install but could be fitted back)
Spare differential (one on car is ok, but have a spare from a breaker just incase!)
Rear "crystal" lights (common rear light replacement but just looks "chavvy" in my eyes so went back to standard)
4 original RX7 wheels (with tyres - believe still legal) for those who want wheels for drag/drift etc
Original space saver (bald, but it\'s there if wanted to be put back)
Electro-lumecent dial kit (to convert the dials to white sport dials)
Exhaust bung for those moments when you feel a need for quieter times!
Set of NGK 10s spark plugs (currently running on 9s all round but have a set of 10s for if you feel the need to crank the boost up!)

Bad Points:

There had to be some...

Paint job is showing it\'s age. A good clay/wax/polish should pretty much sort it out though.
Rear tyres are very low in places. Got through it\'s MOT but could be close next year.
I would also recommend getting 4-wheel allignment done (hasn\'t been done for a few years now and on these cars it can make a huge difference to drive & feel).

Otherwise, it\'s a classic car (so say the insurance company so it\'s £230 per annum insurance!), and is registered (correctly in my eyes) as a 1.3 with the DVLA so £115pa car tax.

For those into "power", this car has been mapped before the engine upgrades this year to just over 400bhp on the Austec Racing dyno. It was reeled in due to ignition issues (hence new coil pack and rewire) to 365bhp. The latest mapping on the new rebuild has not been dyno\'d so have no idea on the power. It was mapped to 1.2bar, but is restricted by the HKS EVC to 0.8 bar for road use.

Any questions, I\'m happy to answer. I\'m sure there\'s much more to this car I\'ve forgotten to list! I have stacks of paperwork, including back to all import documentation and thatcham alarm installation certificate.

As an additional note, I also have a nearly new expensive made to fit car cover for anyone who would want to keep it outside (currently garaged though - hence the cover is hardly used!) so if you wanted this also, please make me an offer for it.

Cars for Sale / Another FD selling up..
July 31, 2012, 05:37:24 PM
Yep, with Peter Best. All mods declared, plus garaged.

Can\'t beat them for RX7s I don\'t think, but has to be a second car, usually limited mileage, and owner over 30 I think (although used to be 25)..

My baby is up for sale. 10 years of rotary ownership and it has to come to an end.

I\'m not in a rush to sell though (I\'d like a C3, but have this to keep me happy until! Yes, a desire to move to the dark side of V8s...).

In my eyes, one of the tidiest RX7s around, and it\'s certainly an eye opening difference when compared to the more common stripped out power houses!

Rebuilt 2 months ago, mapped by Blitzboy since, hardly done any miles after (a run up the M1 to move house from Aldershot to Yorkshire is all!).

And no, I don\'t want a BMW in exchange.. Corvette C3 convertible pre 1973 (with the chrome bumpers) and I\'m interested mind :)

Bad Points:

There had to be some...

Paint job is showing it\'s age. For at/very near asking price I will have the car clayed/waxed/machine polished to have it looking it\'s best. Note, there is some cracking of the paint directly above the exhaust due to the odd flames..
Rear tyres are an MOT failure. Again, will replace for at/very near asking price
4 wheel alignment needs doing (camber/toe adjustment). Will again have this done for at/very near asking price

Otherwise, it\'s a classic car (so say the insurance company so it\'s £230 per annum insurance!), and is registered (correctly in my eyes) as a 1.3 with the DVLA so £115pa car tax.

Technical Stickies / Folding Number Plate - Make One
February 14, 2012, 11:16:03 PM
Why make a folding number plate, when you can buy one cheaply from the states??

Had one on my car for years now, cost next to nothing (£30 ish, inc postage and import).

They\'re an optional extra on Corvettes (fold away for states that don\'t require front plates, fold back out for states that do). Just check out Corvette spares/parts sales!

Quote from: billybobbooth;801012thats mad when i was 20 i had a ex rally celica st185 on 300 bhp limited (like said ex rally car) and was only paying about £1000 fully com om only 26 now. and my insurance for 3 cars fully comp with 1 crash on insurance 1 years now clames on the rx and 0 on the other 2 and im only paying £1200 now.

For some marques of vehicles, insurance has more than doubled over the last 3 years, so that doesn\'t surprise me!!

Just because I\'m bored at work, I am going to play devil\'s advocate to your friend\'s post...

Quote from: Ada7;800635Tomorrow, i\'m taking strike action against the Goverments Pension cuts proposal. Some of you may think we shouldn\'t, some think we should. Some people think it\'s only to do with the pensions, and with that in mind, they are unfortunatly wrong. My job entails carring/lifting heavy patients down stairs, working in cars upside down, it is a physically and mentally demanding job, do you honestly belie...ve you can do this at 68 years of age....i know i won\'t be able to, considering half the patients we go to are around that age, who are having heart problems or stokes etc.

And the builder in the private sector? Or what about any other form of labouring job which, in the private sector, will have even lower pensions than most in the public sector - if any pension at all!

Quote from: Ada7;800635Police and fire service can retire early....why can\'t we??? So many other reason\'s other than money

You can retire early. You just get a early retirement adjustment factor applied to your pension (read "reduction")

Quote from: Ada7;800635Please if you pass a picket line by an ambulance station, please toot your horn, and show your support, if you disagree with the strikes, please stop and have a chat with one of us, and we can enlighten you on the full details. Please don\'t shout abuse at us unless you know the full details. And finally for those worried about falling ill, or having an accident, the service is still providing a life and limb cover to protect you, by staff that are striking.

Trust me, you\'ll get no abuse from me. I disagree with strike action, but entirely agree with why you\'re annoyed/aggrevated and feel there\'s little else you can do.

Quote from: Ada7;800635So when the ruling classes decide we can have a day off for a royal wedding it doesn\'t damage the economy, but when the workers decide to strike it costs millions!
(double standards + Hypocrisy)

Not at all. It damaged the economy and hurt our growth figures for the 2nd quarter (ONS stated it had about a 0.5% hit - so millions and millions). One thing though, it was a bank holiday for all, so panics over what to do with children who can\'t go to school and the like is the damage area. Plus, people were off on holiday, so went out and spent money, rather than stood on picket lines not spending money - hence the strike will have a bigger impact than the wedding.

Quote from: Ada7;800635Do you remember when the Ambulance service, fire, police and prison officers, teachers, binmen, community workers, nurses, doctors & lollipop ladies etc crashed the stock market, wiped out banks, took billions in bonuses and paid no tax? No, me neither

Not explicitly, but I do (and still) remember when ambulance/fire/police/prison/nurses/teachers/binmen etc borrowed on credit cards rather than saved before buying their new flat screen tv, or borrowed to buy a car, holiday etc - the main cause of the market crash being people borrowing money now rather than saving up and waiting (essentially, that is the whole basis of the current crisis) and, if not being unable to pay those debts back, are now paying them off and cutting back on luxuries, which is killing businesses causing a lot of the current pain..

Sorry... I am honestly bored at work so playing devil\'s advocate.

I kinda wish I could go on strike presently (currently under consultation period over new terms/conditions on pay & benefits within our company) but
unfortunately, as one high up person in HR pointed out simplistically, they can\'t make us accept them, but you either accept them, or pretty much go elsewhere...
#12
Speaking of the RPI to CPI switch, seems that\'s part of the reason for the strikes:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2011/oct/25/unions-high-court-public-sector-pensions-reform

In reality, looks like it\'s a case of tough s**t on that one, due to the wordiness of most scheme rules. If the rules explicitly state RPI, then it\'s illegal. If it just says "inflation", I guess you can pick whatever definition you wish (RPI, RPIX, CPI etc etc).
#13
Correct me if I\'m wrong in your situation, but in the Private Sector any changes to your Final Salary pension plan can only occur going forward (e.g. you cannot take away someone\'s benefit they have already accrued).

As such, what you have built up already (60ths of final salary I guess) will remain (unless they compensate you somehow for the difference in value of Final Salary vs career average salary scheme).

Therefore you are only paying more going forward, for a different pension arrangement going forward (which is more reflective of the real cost) and anything you have already will not change.

To try to put it into an example, using one part of the NHS scheme, that changed a few years back from final salary to career average salary. So for someone who was in the FS for 10 years, and then will retire in 30 years time, they\'d get 10/60 * Final Salary on retirement + 30/60 * average salary over lifetime of employment. They don\'t suddenly get 40/60 * average salary (that would be illegal)..

If they are proposing thus to change what you have already accrued, strike to your hearts content and rinse them in the courts. If though, this is only for future pension accrual, then personally I\'d have gone much further than the government, closed the Final Salary scheme, offered everyone a DC scheme, and said pay as much as you want into it - if you want a 60ths of final salary, be prepared to put in 30% of your salary for it. If you only want to pay 5% of your salary, expect to retire on £5k a year tops kinda thing!

The other thing to note, touched on in above posts, is that when you say reitre on £6k, that will be in real terms. When you actually retire in the future, you\'ll be paid a lot more than that, but it will be equivalent in real terms to what £6k a year is now. So assuming you\'re 20 years from retirement, you\'ll probably actually retire on £10k a year, accounting for inflation etc. Make sense?

As a side note, it does depend hugely on your scheme rules. For example, if your scheme rules say statutory increases in payment, they can now chose if that is RPI or CPI (generally CPI is lower) and that applies historically due to statutory increases being inflation, and the government allows either definiton of inflation.. (long story cut very short!)

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Energy Bills
October 14, 2011, 11:29:50 PM
Quote from: wolfie1;794482its free in scotland, and in some parts it does just what you say seriously, i used to live in a village in the west coast and after a downpour your water was brown and had bits of peat floating in it and in winter a tap had to be left on at the end of the village to stop the pipes freezing!

Try living down the end of a 1 mile dirt track, at an address Royal Mail refuse to believe exists, with pipes that are over 40 yrs old and installed by a DIY enthusiast..

A tiny hint of frost and it\'s all hands to the local tescos for bottled water, and to friends houses to fill up the jerry cans (water versions!) so can wash, drink, give the horse water etc!

Mind you, water bill is only £6 a month, so can\'t complain too much!!!

Quote from: AMH;794110Me too - and I\'d never call you an ass Ace (other words do come to mind  :Giggle )

I agree with you and I think that\'s what the question was referring to - hence it\'s still correct. The majority of employees of my company are female but they are mainly in the lower grades - the percentage split is less and less women the higher the grade. Very few women get to board level - I think that\'s fairly standard for most large companies.

That\'s seemingly the way it is. Our company is heading much more 50:50 (about 55 Male 45 Female presently) and that\'s throughout the levels (although moves about 70:30 when at board level).

It\'s just a statistic that infuriates me sorry, because of what it implies as opposed to what it is showing.

One of many useless statistics though!! I mean, on average, you and I are around 98% Ape....
