If you can\'t install anything try downloading this -Microsoft Security Scanner

even on another machine and running from a USB should do the trick, it\'s completely standalone so most virus\'/malware can\'t stop it,  I\'ve used it quite succesfully on heavily infected machines that can\'t even open a browser or run anything from the start menu left it going for a few hours and job done!

Is it a new Apexi and have you let it learn your car? from my understanding you need to plug it in and let it do it\'s thing for a bit... sure a few posts are around explaining the process

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Hard Drives

I wouldn\'t recommend a USB dongle, when they break you have pretty much no chance of recovering your data at least with a good old fashioned HDD not solid state as Lacey mentioned a bit of corruption can cause you problems with the right \'free\' tools you can save most of it - obviously backing up is best.

I can also second Lacey\'s samsung recommendation, just decide how small you want it and either go cheap and get a full size drive and caddy or a laptop drive and caddy.

One thing on the USB vs eSATA if you are going to move it around and use on friends computers it might be worth considering sticking with USB just for compatibility

Quote from: fil_auto;769846Ryan - and rx7 for around the 5k mark, poss even less TBH on a new build or recent with compression results of mid to high 7\'s is all good for several thousands of miles ;)

There\'s plenty out there, just search around and buy with your head... not your heart ;)

I Second that ;)

Quote from: RyanT;769741Hey guys what are people paying for a rebuild on there engine ? I\'m seeing prices on websites for 3000 + vat does that sound right ?

That is about right, although it is generally a starting figure as until you get the engine apart you never know what parts will need replacing.

And as your rebuilding anyway you may as well get some porting done and before you know it you have spent more than the car is worth!

You could also just sell your broken engine and buy a working one that has less mileage on it, may cost you more in the long run but that is the gamble you take

Quote from: Ada7;769730Sounds great, i\'d be up for it next time and i\'m sure we could get others to go too :D
What it like getting cars on and off the train? Just thinking about us with silly low (and noisy for that matter) cars

Adam

Could always make next years a ferry trip that would be a cheaper option too an more fun I would say :)

we would all drive off at the same time and stuff it would be really cool and make for epic photos plus not crunching sounds :rollin

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Car names
June 15, 2011, 02:47:37 PM
Quote from: Grant Monkhouse;769210Im odd too, have never named a car, nor have ever referred to a car as "she"

A car is an "IT" it is an object, some names I have called it are a PITA, complete B stard, POS, worthless piece of cow manure that is a never ending money pit.

I find naming a car strange, you name pets not cars.

I think cars can have a personality as much as pets do, my goldfish I would say has less personality than my car :o

My first 3rd gen was called Shiela, no idea why I just chose it.  My rx8 was Roxanne but that was because of the number plate had rox in it and Chloe is my current FD because it makes me feel safe after the first 7 caught fire and hit a wall lol :)

My crap daily drivers tend to have boy names, like Kevin my primera :)

Biggest difference between the pre 96 and later models is the improvement to the turbo pack and plumbing which is more efficient and more powerful along with a 16 bit ECU which is probably better to. Think the doors were also lighter :0)

Within the FD world I don\'t think anyone considers any one model any inferior to another power wise because as soon as you start to modify the original hp figures go out of the window

Good luck with your purchasing and welcome :)

Quote from: Nik da Greek;765167Based on my own personal experience, I\'d estimate that a rotary engine lasts about 2,000 miles or three months, whichever comes first. A rebuild costs you everything you own. If I sound bitter about it, it\'s only cos I fduking well am

Time to change your tuner? :rollin

Hi Kodiak,

Welcome to the forum, where abouts in the South-West are you based?

Quote from: Lacey;765112If you thrash the nuts off it on a daily basis, don\'t expect a rebuild to necessarily be cheap. If you drive nicely, prepare for expense and you should be pleasantly surprised.

Agree with that but not to forget not taking a rotary to the redline on every journey is advised against and could be as bad as thrashing it :)

To answer ridgeracer it depends, as Blitzboy said the turbo versions don\'t last as long as NA, but the general feeling is that if a 3rd gen hasn\'t had a rebuild by 100,000km it\'s likely to need one very soon, certain modifications can be made to improve cooling which could extend the life of an engine and I would imagine the parts used in rebuilds now can be considered better quality and thus likely to last longer.

As far as cost, not all engine builders/builds are equal, if you want a properly balanced engine with tolerances better than standard and thus more likely to last longer then they can get expensive, I would estimated around the £3500 mark but alot of builders will do them for £1500.

This is all based on my knowledge of the 3rd gen rx7 93 - 2002 so if you could clarify im sure somewhere more knowledgable than I can help

As long as you aren\'t using the fully synthetic as premix :Hammer

All will be fine, all other moving components would probably really benefit from a decent synthetic
