Wheels & Tyres, Suspension & Brakes / Brake pads ??
November 03, 2008, 06:24:22 PM
I have been running Hawk Blue 9012 pads on the front lately.  They work ok on road and very well on track.  The only drawback is they are quite heavy on the discs and last about 3 trackdays.  I was thinking of trying ferrodo ds3000 pads next. Has anybody tried these.

I think ive managed to kill the seals in one of my turbos.  Getting large amounts of pale blue smoke out the back on high rev lift off.  Where is a good place to get them rebuilt quickly as I have a track day booked 2 weeks today?

Quote from: adib;544174hi neil are you got a fd or fc, if its a fd then 2 off the bigger pipes that open wastegate have pills in them if u have changed them or you just done rats nest
Yes its an FD and yes it was the two pipes that I replaced without realising that they had restrictors in them.  Knew it was something stupid I had done.
Cheers for the help.

I think I\'ve probabbly done something stupid.  I have just replaced all the hoses in the rats nest and surrounding area, after having had one crack recently and another pop off at a trackday.  Having put it all back together the car runs fine except for that it won\'t hit more than 0.54 bar boost on either turbo.  I\'m guessing I got something wrong when I swapped all the hoses over, Anyone any ideas on where to start looking, I\'m thinking it could be the waste gate control.

could be many things TBH, I have had this same problem a couple of times and on both ocasions it has turned out to be leaking pipes that go under the plenum.  The easiest way to check is to bypass the AST tank and pressurise the water system and see if it holds pressure. Chances are it wont.  I modifed a ford probe pressure cap to take a hose that goes to a pressure guague and via a valve to a foot pump to do the test.  The first time I had this problem it turned out I had four seperate small leaks.
If its the pressure cap leaking chances are you will get water leaking out dripping off the R.H. brake duct.

Wheels & Tyres, Suspension & Brakes / brake troubles

I have done all of the obvoius methods of bleeding that you suggest,  not treied from the wrong end though.  Its definatly not servo related .
The handbrake is dodgy and has been for a while but I havn\'t just changed the rears only the fronts and the problem only appeared after a bedding in procedure but I might try there first as they are definatly not right

I swapped the master cylinder whith a spare tonight,  the problem is still there but less bad.  So tomorrow I will bypass the abs temperaraly and see if that makes a difference.

I think the master idea sounds the most feasable although I thought if that was the case it if you applied light pressure to the pedal and kept it there the pedal would slowly sink to the floor which it doesnt.
Is not the servo despite the pipe being cracked it keeps a vacum over night.

Cheers for the replys.

Wheels & Tyres, Suspension & Brakes / brake troubles

The the brakes on my fd3s have gone strange again, they did this before but over time and swapping bits over it slowly cured itself.

When pressing the pedal it goes 3/4 of the way down before starting to work. on reaplication of the brakes the pedal is firm and feels normal. If you leave it for about 7 seconds whilst either moving or stationary it goes back to being soft.

The brakes have been bled tonight and the fluid was clear and had no air.
It has recent braided hoses. The master cylinder was swapped for a second hand one 6 or so months ago when I last had the problem and this made no difference. It has race brake fluid and all the pistons move freely and smoothly.

All I can think of is that the pistons are creeping back in to the calipers a little bit but I have no idea what could cause this.

I have another brake master cylinder and servo that I could try or I could rip the ABS out.

Incidently the problem occoured afert having fitted hawk black pads to the fronts and bedded them in as per instructions and after having waited for the brakes to cool down the problem appeared.

Any ideas apreciated as I am running out of time as I have a trackday booked next week.
cheers Neil.

I got beat by another rex the other day, and I was utterly destroyed by a nobel at a track day.

If you were to go for 2k , if you can get it done by some one that can stove it it will be much harder wearing.

Does anyone know how much fluid it takes to flush the brake and clutch systems through.

General Technical / HKS spark plugs, any good?
August 31, 2006, 09:49:02 PM
I emailed NGK recently about the iridium plugs and this was the reply.

Thank you for your enquiry passed to me today.
Unfortunately the two plugs you mention (R7420-10 and R7420-11)are not UK kept spark plugs.  The only alternative we have is R6725-10.5.

Although I have no Idea how much these are or if they are any good.
I shall pop down to lucas tomorrow and find out a price.

When I had leak issues before I pressurised it to 0.9 bar and sprayed all the hoses etc with leak detector (soapy water) and looked for the bubbles.
Turned out I had three separate leaks.

I\'ve been running the mid pipe for nearly two years now and had no problems with it.  Just left the down pipe in the shed.
They sound fine, as for performance Reworx commented on how free flowing my exhaust was when it was on the rollers.
The only thing I noticed was they don’t have a hanger on them unlike some of the dearer ones do, but you could easily make one if you really wanted.
