I'd be hesitant in taking a rotary to the Garage. I bought an FD which had been rebuilt there about 6 months earlier. I got it checked out by WGT about 6 months after I bought it and they had to do another rebuild as the seals had been put in wrongly. I ended up taking it down the the road annually for a major service and check up. In between I got a local guy to change the oil and do the basics to keep it running fine.

It was 10 years ago so the Garage may have more experience/knowledge now though. I doubt it though as there really isn't many rx7's in Scotland.

3rd generation RX-7's / Carbon Creations

I have the carbon creations kit on mine. The fit isn\'t perfect. Although mine was one of their early FD kits. The problem is that you can\'t blend it in if you want to keep the carbon finish. I\'m not a full member anymore so can\'t post any photos. Its for sale though here is the link to the pistonheads ad

Can\'t look past the Goodyears. I\'ve been very impressed with mine and believe the newer ones are even better. They won Evo\'s tyre test last month by quite comfortably coming at the top or near the top of all the tests they did (Wet handling, Aquaplaning, Braking, dry handling and road route). The next 2 in that test were Vredestein ultrac sessanta and continental contisport contact 3.

You guys are lucky not getting stopped, when I had mine on the flat part of my bumper (laying down horizontal) I got stopped loads so ended up getting a sticky 1

Most Glaziers should be able to cut a mirror for you if you take the broken one in as a template.

3rd generation RX-7's / Some rx7 help please
October 16, 2007, 05:48:48 PM
Jimmy\'s have a good reputation and according to the ad, it has lots of other new parts like clutch, water pump, tyres etc. These are all going to help you have a far more reliable journey into RX ownership. I\'d say of the 2 its less likely to cause any bother. Thats not to say that the other 1 is bad as its quite difficult to gauge how good a car is on the net.

General Technical / Repairing Carbon Fiber?
October 16, 2007, 05:40:09 PM
Its very difficult to repair carbon fibre unless you don\'t mind painting instead of a lacquer coat. It needs to be sanded down, then a patch of carbon  overlayed on the broken part and then lacquered over. It is very very difficult to get the weave to match when doing this and almost impossible to get it so you can\'t spot the repair.

Hi dboy,

Welcome to Scotland and to MRC. Really there aint that many of us up here so the nearest rotary specialist is WGT in Middlewich. As you\'re planning on a single turbo you would probably be better getting one that has already had the bulk of the work done as it is by far the cheaper route. The downside to that is you don\'t always know who has done the work and wether it has been done to a good standard or not. Look for one that has had a recent rebuild by one of the specialists and you shouldn\'t have any problems.

Cheers

OK, I\'m gonna state now that I have never used the garage before but I do know that some have in the past. I seem to remember someone saying that Marc wasn\'t doing work on RX7\'s anymore because he was never making money on them (i.e. he was having to redo work I think). My car was rebuilt by them about 6 months before I got it and within 10k miles it was needing rebuilt again as a couple of oil seals were not in correctly. They do have a good rep (hence the reason I paid a highish price at the time for my car) and I don\'t see a problem using them for most things but some stuff I would leave to the specialists.

Have you checked everything is plugged in properly behind the dials, could be something as simple as that.

You need to let the ecu go through the learning process, if you let me know your email I can forward the installation guide and the manual to you. Good to see another further up north, there isn\'t that many up this way.

I. C. E. & Electrical / Removal of heater controls
August 28, 2007, 08:04:38 PM
If I read correctly you have the panel and controls out of the car but want to separate them. If I\'ve read correctly you need to take the buttons (blower speed, blower direction and heat) off the front, be careful and try not to mark either the front or the switches. A small flathead screwdriver inbetween and twisted whilst pulling the switch. There is a sticky glue type substance round the edges which holds it all (the front panel and the controller) together, gently heat it with a hair dryer or leave it somewhere quite warm for a while and it\'ll just prise off.

Hope that helps
