Sorry the video above went black. The lighting wasn't good, so decided to delete it. Thing is, my GoPro isn't very suitable for filming indoors & the lighting in my garage could do with improvement. But now we've had a full two days without rain (Would you believe it!), here's some proper images of the new inboard fuel system. And some little Mazda sounds to go. Enjoy!

Noriaki's been tried, tested and successfully MoT'd today. Won't run a 100% until that Nikki has been replaced, but at least we can get some drives in (weather permitting) before our short, arctic classic car season ends.  :great:

Upgraded fuel system now appears to be working (fingers crossed). Only a proper test drive will show whether the new setup has solved the misfire/faltering or whether the cursed Nikki has more evil tricks stored up its nozzles. Fuel pressure regulator should improve the odds. Currently set at 4 psi and idle and revving sounding fine.

Also, got the temp gauge working again. So the dashboard refurb also covers dials and switches – everything works (bar the radio that has no speaker yet). 😅

Agree! I should have taken a pic or two of that interior. Once you get used to the giant surf board where the gear level should normally be, it is a nice driving environment. Only sad that in this day and age cars are primarily calibrated to take you for a drive, rather than the other way around...  ::)

How to:

Pump sits in the original mounting, but standing inside the boot instead of hanging behind the rear wheel. Drilled two additional holes in the fuel filter inspection lid to allow the out-going fuel line and the wires through respectively (see earlier post). The in-going fuel line goes through plate's existing clamp hole. Only marginal widening needed. Box is fastened on top of same inspection lid using longer bolts. Box should protect the assembly from potential loose objects in the boot area (did I hear baggage?). Since Facet pump is quite vocal, I added a bit of sound proofing. Changing filter or pump is now a matter of minutes, rather than hours, and inspection only requires the lifting of two lids.  ;)

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Testing the Mazda 6e
July 31, 2026, 08:47:59 PM
All right. Went and did a test drive. Wanted to make up my own opinion about electric Mazdas & if you're going to have an opinion, better make sure it's an informed opinion.

Conclusion: I could survive if I had to convert to an electric Mazda. The 6e is comfy, roomy, good-looking, well-handling, super-smooth and responsive. It handles bad roads well, too. The fun factor, however, is sort of limited to the jack-rabbit start. You can have a bit of fun in sports mode once you have swithced off all the security (and suicide) features. Should probably add that, even when they are switched on, the "active" features on this car are kept on the discreet side. That goes for plings, beeps, as well as vibration warnings. No need to fight for control of the wheel at any point either, like in a Hyundai (cyclist-killer) or other less prestigeous e-cars...

In short, the 6e is smooth, swift, comfy, pleasant, heavy, and a bit dull. No matter how much I wanted to, I just couldn't shake this nagging feeling of being ever so slightly bored. Guess it says something that it felt really good to get back in the old CX30, playing a bit with "manual" gears and hearing that exhaust rasp again. Of course, had I been able to switch straight to the Rx2, I wouldn't ever have looked back...  :D

Very nice, congrats UK!  :sign0098:
That looks like a 1974 series 3. It has the late rear lamps and, I assume, the late or intermediate dash.

Nice or not. Decided to completely re-do the fuel pump and filter assembly. Moving it inboard to save it from the dirt and get some ease of access. Meant drilling two more holes in the fuel filter cover to let the fuel lines and wire through. Pump uses the original mounts, but from the top. The whole assembly, filter and all, will be mounted inside a battery box for protection.

But if you can do with a LHD 13B version, the owner might let this one go for around £30K. PM me if you're interested, and I'll put you in touch!  ;)

Don't worry. The asking price is 応談, which I recon means POA.  :D
