Hiya,
Yes I would recommend covering the engine before washing the car if you keep the Scoot bonnet. I relocated my alternator down where the power steering pump was, but yours will be in the conventional location up front and centre, so any water will get in to the alternator. Killed the bearings in mine after 5 years of occasional water ingress.

Scoot is great design for summer as it lets the heat out of the engine bay with the bonnet closed. If its a standard/genuine scoot you can buy rain trays. These screw to the underside of the bonnet and direct any rain/water away to the front of the engine bay.

Mine was last mapped by Pip at WGT, he is well respected in the Rotary world.

A little blip of the throttle on start up should be fine with your Bridge Port, mine needs the same.

Yeah i will probably just have to stick to washing it myself so i can cover the engine bay. Im not sure if its genuine scoot but i can see its got small holes around the vents were something can be screwed in so may try getting something made as i cant find the rain trays.

Awsome thats ome less worry thanks again for the information and help much appreciated.

Small update but spoke to Stu at Rotor Torque the car will hopefully be going to Rotor Torque in May to get some work done to it just to get a few bits done will call again to book it in and confirm a date.

Will be getting following done:

Oil Filter
Oil
Spark Plugs
Coolant change
Fuel Filter
Remove line lock will fix the leak and as wont use it
Replace RW TB with a Stock one as i would probably prefer it more like this
Remap by Jaydee hopefully

Wow, thats a nice car for a first rotary :)

FD can be quite a handfull with 320hp, so I cant imagine what a beast she is with +500!  ???

Thank you, you need to be wide awake when driving but then again ive only used 450 bhp i would prefer if low boost was running 400 so i can make use of all the power

Have a look in the "Events Calendar" and "Monthly Pub Meets, Race Meets, Trackdays....."  sections to see if there is anything that suits you  :icon_thumleft:

Lol thank you, hoping to be able to attend some during summer and get some miles on her although i have already done 130 local driving and only way i know i have is by the amount of fuel i've put in  will be having a long browse of forum tonight  :icon_thumleft:

I have a scoot bonnet. I put a waterproof canvas cover over the engine if the FD is out parked and it's raining. FD engines do not like a lot of rain. You should be ok if you get caught out driving in the rain, but it makes a mess of the engine and bay.
If the engine is a handful, it can be controlled with a suitable map. Mines a half bridge and just been reduced to 522bhp and it's very manageable. Yes it needs help to tick over when cold, but I didn't have the cold start setup. I have a Kaaz LSD and yes they Klonk making low speed turns. Is it a 1.5 or a two way . Mines a 1.5 and it's Fantastic on track.
Always use the fuel it's mapped on.

Welcome to the club, you have a very capable car.

Chris

Ah ok will order one now as im having to put a plastic sheet over the bonnet now was considering getting a full car cover believe it was the storm force one was wondering if there was any sort of covers you could get to put on the inside of the bonnet to cover the vents does it be a problem when washing the car?  Engine can be a handful when driving its not exactly a engine you can trot around in most time at low speeds have to go in neutral and coast otherwise just judders and cant just cruise in a higher gear so mostly local roads bes in 2nd or 3rd. If you dont mind me asking who mapped your car for you? Also sorry to sound stupid but what is the cold start setup i love the car but i got a little worried when it needed a slight blip of the throttle to start but when this is done starts perfectly fine also i believe owner said if you rev the car to around 3k then turn the car of its good for the engine and makes next start better? The lsd is a 1.5 so im glad most of this stuff is normal its as its my first rotary every little thing im being extra scared about and from now on i definitely will be using shell only im going to try going to see Jaydee hopefully soon for a check over of the car and mapping to see if he can tweak it but then im thinking its not a car made for daily driving and if anything should just enjoy its rawness once a week.

Thanks again and by the sounds of it yours is lovely to will be checking it out soon to see if you got a build up thread and thanks for the advice  :icon_thumleft:

550 hp....ive got about 330hp at the mo and mines an animal...that must be a lot of fun!

In all honesty 550 is to much for road use i run it on 450 when i go street port and rebuild when time comes getting it mapped again i want to have around 400 for local just so can make use of all power mate

MEGA MEGA MEGA first rotary...
What a beatiful animal!
If its been mapped on v power...do not use in anger if anything else in the tank....
I have an hour round trip for Vpower fill up. If i get caught short i use tesco 99..as 5 mins away and splash enough to the shell station.
Wow though what a car.....what ya gonna use it for....defo not a daily.....

Thank you mate appreciate it and yeah i think that was the problem i did give it abit of stick and it felt like a different car but just put in 50l of v power nitro and the premix and it drove alot smoother. Locally i have a shell 1/2 mile away so never will again. Absolutely not a daily lol in all honesty just to enjoy on weekends or to go to shows.

Hi

Have been on the look out for a RX7 for quite some time and finally have purchased one, car has previously been on the forum.

Car is running full bridge port and single turbo set up ran 542bhp on the last dyno run, car is brutal to drive and glad its not going to be my daily, few things I may change on the car in the future is getting a rear diffuser and rear wing also changing the back box as it has a different one on the car at the moment and finally this is one of my first things probably is getting the car mapped by Jaydee as ive heard good things. But for now would just like to enjoy the car.

Few questions I would appreciate your help on:

Can a Bridgeport engine go back to street port or is this not possible and a new engine needs to be sourced?
Are all bridge ports lumpy in lower revs or could this be something to do with the way car has been mapped?
Should Kaaz LSD make slight knock when turning after long drives and is it normal to be able to hear the lsd sound?
Is it normal to have to blip the throttle to help a bridge ported engine to start?
Also today had to hold the revs for 30 secs in order for the car to idle as it died out when started it first from cold is this just a Bridgeport issue or can this also be linked to mapping?
Finally owners who have vented bonnets would it be ok to leave it out during the rain as I'm unsure whether the scoot style bonnet would let water in and cause issues?

Thanks in advance

First up  :welcome:

Many try and do extract huge amounts of Rotary but not every one gets it right and its worth bearing in mind that, the pop thing can affect a piston car the same way with bad tuning , so that sort of takes care of that one.

You have already sussed that people buy these real cheap at times, expect it to have all the reliability of a 950 Ford Fiesta and not maintain it at all then when it goes wrong "yeh its a pile of junk" !!!

Have a read on this link to help and bear in mind when looking at an FD, that it should start immediately cold and hot and once its had a run you should not be able to hear any noises from the water system.

If the car does not meet these criteria, then walk away and dont listen to any one telling you they always take a bit of starting or they always make coolant noises.

http://mazdarotaryclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=256.0

Hope this helps and its worth knowing that once bitten by the FD bug you will never look at Supras or early Skylines the same way any more  ;)

Very true with regards to the pop thing in all honesty ive never thought of it like that.

Thanks alot for going in to detail for me it has helped alot along buyers guide 3 things i would do for sure is the cold start, hot start and the champagne test i believe? With other cars id risk it or haggle but if i see a rx7 with issues i would not touch the thing unless it was alot cheaper as i dont want to find that the small issue on a test drive was the tip of a iceberg done this once on a evo 6 cost me 1500 before i even got it in the drive.

I really do want a FD ive loved them for a long time watching best motoring videos its a shame i couldnt insure one a few years ago when they were cheaper

Hi,

Have been looking for a RX7/Supra for some time now and i am leaning towards a RX7 and have enquired about 1 but nothing as of yet and am based in Marlow

I bet this questions be asked alot but if you buy a well maintained rx7 and if you continue to do regular services on a well built engine should they really go pop as often as people say? I realised alot of the horror stories come from non owners or people who buy cheap ones and get stung
