General Technical / Operating temp

Hi Adam, You may remember i said i had installed an Apexi ecu, One reason was to check the Aftermarket water temperature against the Apexi, The Apexi is generally thought to be the most accurate, and gave readings lower than the aftermarket gauge. so the readings from that gauge are on the higher side, for water! if that helps. you mention Oil temp, have you fitted an aftermarket oil gauge? If so, where is the sensor for this? and is it capilliary or electric gauge?

Mark ,the quiet one is the Re Am Dolphin, i have one that has been re-packed and re-enforced, £100 but P&P would be costly,
Email ro284b@aol.com if you want to know anything, i sadly no longer have the car and it\'s in the way,

Adam there is the standard cat, there is nothing wrong with the clutch, the plugs are less than a year old, As for the oil leak as i said on the phone the only thing i have done that side is replace the oil gauge sender for a known good one, i was not prepared for the amount of oil that came out because you can only replace this by feel! which is very difficult! very messy! thinking about it that could be still leaking, i would have thought any oil i spilt would be gone by now! the reason i think that is because i don\'t think these senders should need any plumbers sealing tape because it needs the thread to ground for the gauge to work, (tapered thread) as for the turbo problem, i only had that happen once a couple of years ago, but when i switched the ign off then on again it never happened again, lack of use of the turbo\'s may be a factor, while the engine has been run regularly, not so with the turbo\'s, but they were fine when we tested the car, be intersting to see if that happens again, but try and note the boost gauge and revs,

As i said Adam in my text, and when i saw you, i knew i spilt some oil when i changed the oil pressure sender, i didn\'t realize so much oil would come out from there, fitting the new sender was very tricky, and difficult to even see, so i guess there is a a pool of oil down under the engine that i couldn\'t get to mop up. as i said, and it\'s blowing towards the back, your trip home is the longest run the car had had since Brooklands meet, year before, if only these cars came with a garage pit! The oil level is always right depending on the running the car gets of course, the only oil that gets used is what the omp takes, any serious leak would obviously cause the oil level to drop, which you say has not happened, when the car was stood the engine was run regularly up to temp,

Hi Adam , Real sorry you have this problem, there has never been any sign of a leak anywhere on my posh drive from this car, The car has been stood for a while, but i have been running the engine, while it was sorned off road for a time, and no sign of any problem anywhere, i was very sad to see her go, i never changed the oil in the diff because of the low mileage, but did engine and gearbox of course, if it is a diff seal or similar (as has been suggested) i would have thought there would be an horrendous whining noise or grumbling, but dont know, sorry you have this problem, but if it helps i am more than willing to come to yours and have a look at it for you, i do want to know exactly what has happened, however i have to go to hospital tomorow, maybe later this week, could you let me know please,

Bit of an update, i am expecting two Bank Transfers! i have never done this before, but understand i have to give my Bank details first, in order for the money to be transfered! Is there any risk to my account using this method, i\'m wary of everything now! Once again any advice, very gratefull, Thanks Bob

Interesting the only negative after a test run was the tickover set too low, how good is that! I am glad you posted your query on here. The number of guests who checked out my advert for the car was amazing, so i added a few more pics. must say it was great to be out in the car again. in spite of the weather! if she sells, i really am going to miss this fantastic car! more than any other i have owned! great cars. great club,

I only just realised the last time i had to set the tickover was when i had an Apexi ecu on the car,(which i told you about,)i only used this to check all the codes to see if there were any faults, (there were none! ) that was on my last run to Brooklands meet! i reset it then because the tickover was too fast with the Apexi on! i havent used the car much since sadly. i was wondering what may have changed, that plus a service may well explain it! Phone when you like Adam.

On the ball Timmy! As i told you Adam, the reason it stalled was because the tickover was too low, i have not used the car much lately, certainly not on boost, and after a run i realised the tickover was not set high enough, that is why it stalled, it was not your driving or changing gear, the tickover settled at 400 after a blast, i have now set it where it should be at 900, the petrol may have lost a bit while its been off the road, i dont know, its fine now, you may remember it was ticking over very steady even at 400, at stand still! of course it would stall at that speed! i did not realise that was why she was a bit jerky! on low throttle at 40, as it was ok for me on the outward trip. i think the important thing to note is how quickly she re-started when very hot! plus you felt the standard car on full boost, (only briefly when it was only just safe to do so in the wet,) there is nothing wrong with the clutch or the engine, had i had time to use the car more often recently, i would have noticed the tickover being set too low. as i said i have only been doing 10 miles a week to keep the oil flowing, not blasting around on boost! if you want to try again you are welcome,
Bob
