Hey all.

I have a used Apexi Power FC (FD3S2 9904-0072) and a Commander (FCC2 ZF 010-00066) which I bought for my old 1994 RX7 FD. If I remember rightly something didn't work with it and I bought a different one. I'm not having a bit of a clearout and come across it in a box. I don't think the commander is the right one for the PFC? But I could be wrong.

Anyway, I was wondering if someone could recommend a tuning company that might be able to test it for me? I don't know anyone with an FD anymore so I've no way of testing it.

I'll be looking to sell it if I can prove that it works, so if anyone is interested in it get in touch...

Thanks in advance!

General Technical / Blank in UIM - what is it?
April 12, 2015, 07:33:06 PM
Evening all.

Whilst redoing the pipes of the rats nest the other day I noticed that I am missing a couple of solenoids that are shown on the drawing, some pipework, and there appears to be an aftermarket blank on the UIM.

Can anyone enlighten me what mod this is someone has done and the benefits of it?

Cheers

Lee

Hi there bud. I've no idea what they're worth but I need a rear plastic side for the drivers side? May be interested in the lot if you didn't want to split for the right price.

Hey there, what version ECU is this?

Evening all.

Today I tried to install my second hand PFC to my 1994 RX7 FD. I've run into a couple of issues.

Physically the ECU seems to fit well, all plugs match etc. The one I have is a FD3S2 9904-00?? which I believe is an 8bit ECU which is correct for this age FD.

I bought it with an FC Commander which is labelled up as FCC2 ZF 010-00066.

When the ignition is turned on, the commander powers up and displays the 'Apexi' logo, but won't change. From having a search about this would appear to be a conflict in versions - slightly annoying as I bought them as a working pair. I've checked the internal connections and they seem to be fine in the controller end.

I've done quite a bit of googling but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer as to whether I have the correct versions or not, but I don't think so. If anyone could confirm that would be great!

Secondly, I've read even if the commander is the wrong version, the PFC should still function as normal. At the moment the car doesn't fire at all, but I don't actually know what it's set up as - as I can't check. Was hoping to just hear it fire so I know the ECU is a good un. Weirdly, with the PFC plugged in, sometimes when the ignition turns on the cooling fan comes on, sometimes it doesn't? What might this mean?

Cheers in advance!

I had something similar to this on an old FC that my girlfriend had. That seemed to lack compression and stank on fuel. To get that going we put a load of oil in the plug holes and turned it over without plugs or fuel relay. After doing this a few times we put the plugs back in, fuel relay and away it went. No problems ever again. Was very strange!

I've no idea if this is a good idea or not though so be careful!

General Technical / Re: Low Boost?
February 10, 2015, 10:39:52 PM
I'm hoping to get some time this weekend to search for some boost leak. I'm hoping it's something straightforward  :)

With regards to the ECU. I've been doing a bit of reading on the PFC bits and pieces. I've found tables for the older 'base' PFC base and the newer 'base mod' PFC base maps. I was thinking I can fire up my PFC and put the newer base mod settings into it. This should make it safer to run until I can get it mapped on some rollers. I've had a bit of experience with other mapping softwares in the past, but not for a long time. Would there be much risk in doing this?

New to MRC - introduce yourself / Best say hello!
February 08, 2015, 10:08:16 PM
Good evening all.

I bought my second RX7 and my first FD back in November. I've always wanted an FD and when I saw this one I simply fell in love with it. In hindsight I overpaid for it really but the external condition and mileage at under 40k was too much of a temptation. Mechanically she has a few issues which I'm slowly working my way through, and the interior I'm on a losing battle trying to find plastics for a 2 seater - apparently it's an impossible task!

Can't wait for the weather to come good so I can actually keep her clean and really show her off. Simply one of the most beautiful cars I've ever owned!

I think I'll go through all the intercooler/inlet pipework to try and eliminate any boost leaks. As I said I'm trying to get everything working, as it should, before moving forward with modifications. I think the rats nest is on the list to do so that may help getting things working properly.

Unfortunately my PFC is a second hand unit. I've not tried it on the car yet but it was sold in full working condition. I'm yet to look at any manuals for it with regards to resetting it to factory default as I have no idea what mapping/settings are in there at the moment. Do you know if the self learning can be initialized on a used unit Clive?

Cheers for the help guys. It's been a bit of a struggle to find a straightforward description of what to expect and when with regards to standard boosting.

I have an Apexi FC and Commander to put on at some point. I intend on fixing the few little bits and pieces, replacing the standard IC with an aftermarket SMIC, maybe a hard pipe kit before fitting the PFC and getting it mapped properly.

By the sounds some investigation into solenoids and boost leaks will be the way forward to.

Any opinions on how safe the car will be until mapping for just general driving? No racing/ragging etc. Or is time of the essence?

10psi - 8psi - 10psi is what I've read. So to confirm these are the stock boost levels for a 94 Efini? I believe it's the 254hp model.

So I'm right in thinking first turbo 10psi, 8psi is lull as second turbo comes online, second turbo 10psi?

I'm only getting 5psi - boost drops right off, maybe 2-3psi - 7.5psi. Seems a bit low to me?
