2nd generation RX-7's / Re: FC TURBO II Cabriolet

Hi,

Good to see another black one :)

I'm still a bit in 2 minds about keeping it yet, may fancy a 2.5 twin turbo soarer yet lol.

I got an Fd alt to put on at the moment and then I'll go with a koyo rad perhaps.

Then the roof will come next, maybe end of Feb.

I think I would look at getting one from America then someone over here to fit it, not sure who tho yet?

Maybe we could get extra discount for 2?

Do you garage yours?  Mine is on the drive so struggle to deal with the condensation drip from the rear window as I don't have a garage.

That's probably the main reason I'd sell it still and get an Fd project to work on instead.

I've made a decision to keep the car now and will plan to do bits and pieces every month to get it fully worthy of all the Rx7 greatness.

With that in mind I'm planning to get the roof sorted in February and was wondering if anyone on here knew of any fitting or mobile fitting services around the Midlands area?

I'm thinking of getting the hartz stayfast type from America as they seem to be fairly priced but don't know if they are any good?  Where do people tend to get the roofs from?

Before I do the roof I'm going to sort the radiator with either a koyo or mishimoto I think.  Already got an Fd alternator coming so should be able to run a decent fan with it to help the cooling.

Cars for Sale / Reluctant S5 Cabriolet Sale :(
December 28, 2014, 08:54:22 PM
Well guys I've been doing some thinking and I think it's for the best that I should with regret look to sell my S5 Tii Cabriolet...

My main reasons are because although I wanted to bring it fully up to speed (although it's not massive work to do so) I can't really devote the time to it right now as

I have a new job to start in January and that will take up a lot of my time.

I can't really put the Mazda anywhere to store reliably apart from on my drive whilst it waits around for me to get the rest of the work done to it.

Here's a run down of the car and what I think needs to be done to it (bearing in mind the car is fully drivable and starts fine etc in it's current condition)...

1989 Black S5 Turbo ii Cabriolet.
118'000 miles

Good:-
-Had a new Exeedy clutch a couple of months ago along with new Clutch Slave and new Master cylinders. Had them from Clive.(probably only done 100 miles on it so far).
-Had new gear shift boot and bushings done at same time too also got them from Clive.  Work was done at HME Coventry as it was closest for me, drove car there and back fine.
-Bodywork is in good condition for age, previous owner said that the owner before him had been storing it for several years for some reason in his garage...
-Wheels nice condition with good even tread all round.
-Just put in a new 550 Calcium battery from Halfords a couple of days ago.
-Electrics are generally in good working order including the hood motor switch.
-Engine seems to be stable, HME did compression test it although they never gave me anything on paper but he did say it was strong and had some good life left in it after he test drove it after fitting clutch etc...
-There's a Rotechniks sticker in the engine bay so I'm guessing that they may have re-built the engine somewhere in the past although I tried to find out but they didn't have anything on record in their digital system so it was possibly done prior to them upgrading their systems.

Not so great:-
-Current radiator has a tiny leak so will need a replacement - was going to be my next purchase.
-Top will need replacement unless you mind the usual tears?
-Wiper switch only works on low setting, probably the common relay fault which I was just reading up about
-Fuel gage doesn't work - not investigated the problem yet, not really bothered me as I always keep an eye on my mileage.
-Oil pressure gage stopped working after HME had it, they may have disturbed a connection/wire as it was fine before.
-Brakes will probably need changing before the next MOT (in May).
-Probably due a good service (which I was going to get done with the new radiator if I got one).
-Will need another warning light cluster as the current one shows some funny digits on the clock lol, probably because of the age but it's not bothered me.

As I said I really would like to keep this car as driving it really puts a smile on my face and I can't believe how well they handle.

But in reality and being sensible I probably can't devote the time needed to get the other bits done right now and don't want the car to suffer because of that.

I think that if I could sell it I will put the cash towards saving up for a 3rd Gen in the middle of next year as I did originally want one of those anyway although the

cabriolet came up at the right time which is why I got it.

I thought I'd put it out on here first as I'd rather it go into good hands and also because I'm not really rushing to get rid of it which is why I'll wait before

putting it on other places...

Who knows I may even get the other bits done on it yet anyway.

Realistically I'd be looking at sensible offers around the £1850 mark.

If anyone's interested or know's someone who may be feel free to drop me a message etc.

I've put up a picture of the car but can include some more if anyone's interested and when I can take them once the weather is a bit better.

I'm based just outside Cannock if anyone wants to have a look etc.

2nd generation RX-7's / FC TURBO II Cabriolet

Hi Guys.

I think this is probably my first post on here and not been on for a while as I've been busy but I bought a black Turbo II in May and wanted to spend some time on bringing it all back to speed.

It's done about 117'000 miles probably had a rebuild at some point as it has a rotechniks sticker on the airbox although they didn't have any record of it being done but it could have been a long time back.

The story was that it had been sitting around in someone's garage for a long period of time by the previous owner.  This would explain why the bodywork is in good condition, it also looks like it's been welded too at the back of the doors at the bottom so it's had all that covered.

Since owning I've had a new Clutch, Clutch Slave and Master Cylinder and gear bushing replaced at Hurley Rotary Coventry (bought the parts of Clive).

To my own knowledge (not being that mechanically minded) I now need to do the following to bring it all up to speed.

Battery terminals need replacing - these are on order.
New radiator
Needs fuel gague looking at because it's not working
Oil pressure gague needs looking at- ever since I came back from Hurley it wasn't working, possible a lose connection somewhere as it was working fine before.
Turbo gague, similar problem to the Oil gague, needs a check of the wiring i think as it intermittently works as it should.
Brake pads/discs will need doing.
New roof, current one is in good condition but has the usual tears in the common place.

Here's my dilemma... I just don't know what to do with it now?

I'd like to get the radiator and new hood sorted but that's probably going to cost me around the £1000 mark and then there's the issue of the other minor things.

I don't know whether to try and get the work done (although I'm always quite busy) or if I should sell up and put the money towards a 3rd Gen later down the line, which is what I actually wanted anyway.

Don't get me wrong I love the Turbo II to bits and I'm very impressed with the handling of it and how smooth it drives, I just don't know what to do for the best really?

There's plenty of life in the engine to keep it running fine for the foreseeable as Hurley also did a comp test etc and said it was around the 5.9 - 6 ish ranges.

I'd probably consider selling it without too much regret if it went into the hands of the right buyer but I'm not too fussed if I don't.

What do you think I should do?
