RX-8's / 400bhp RX8
November 02, 2012, 11:04:12 AM
tbh hes a gsi kid. think sticking a redtop in anything is best. he thinks his dads l200 could beat my rx7 because as he says \'its rapid!\' despite weighing nearly 3 tonne or more.

i held my laughter till i got in the car!, thought id be nice as it is my gf\'s friend but hes a lot younger than me. so think he wanted to show off.

reminds me of that video on youtube of the lad who had a gen2 rx7 and he thought it was a 5 cylinder. lmao!

lmao i knew it!

I\'ve seen the one he\'s on about too, its a 231BHP standard. I know he didn\'t throw that much money into it to reach those sort of figures.

Well he said that it had a triple rotary 13b, which i know is a complete load of s@#t but there we go.

He said it was N/A, that\'s why i couldnt understand it. He said the only mods were injectors and remap. I was totally confused. Seemed to think the only \'special\' mazdaspeed rx8\'s were in yellow.

I\'ve never heard of an rx7 or rx8 having a 20b as standard? or am i in the dark on that one?

Hey guys,

not normally my section but i wanted to ask a few folke in the know. A friend of my gf used to have an Rx8. We were talking the other day about my 7. He stated to me that he knew someone who had a mazda speed rx8 who managed to get 400bhp from it without the use of a turbo. Is this possible?

he said that the mazdaspeed rx8 had titanium tipped light weight rotors. i just cant see those figures workin out.

what do u guys think?

cheers

Yes the batt light does stay on when trying to start. Was thinking about trying to jump start it maybe?

I swapped out my apexi for a standard ECU, was hoping the auto gearbox would work better with the standard until i get a swap done, Think ill change it back so i can keep an eye on the sensors etc.

Its funny how the other day it fired up straight away no probs then after about 5 mins it died for no reason. Battery seemed to struggle to keep it going.

I was worried it may have been the alternator packed in.

Should i be worried about all the smoke?

3rd generation RX-7's / Worried about my FD

Hey Guys,

I\'m loosing a little faith in my FD, i seem to be getting no where with it. I first bought it a year and a half ago, i bought it knowing i\'d have to do some work with it, so far ive changed the following,

Coolant hoses
Spark plugs
Water pump gasket
Plenum gaskets
Ignition coil packs

I\'ve had it running then it stops then running again then stops. I just cant seem to figure the car out. At the moment i cant afford a rebuild so i\'m using it as a last resort. I\'ve wanted an FD since i was 16, so 10 years later i finally have one but im loosing faith with it.

Heres the problem i have at the moment,

Just been out to her as been to clean spark plugs this afternoon after flooding her accidentally. I didnt feel the battery was charged enough, so i had the batt on charge for a few hours and just tried her now. After attempting to turn her over for about 10 seconds she was sputtering into life then died. My biggest fear at the moment is when i was doing this a huge cloud of smoke that came from the engine and also seemed to to fill the cab area. I was hoping it would be just because its cold outside and the engine would be very cold.

I just dont know where to start next?

Any ideas hints or tips?

I would get it done as soon as possible, even if you just take the plugs out to get the fuel out, you dont want fuel sitting in the housings

General Technical / Power fc help
October 22, 2012, 10:48:39 PM
All i know is the hold button feature does work. i was just told it shouldnt work with the gearbox. ive have a look and the old ecu has been removed and the apexi put in its place. am i right in saying that the auto ecu controlled both the gearbox and engine in the same unit?

General Technical / Power fc help
October 22, 2012, 06:19:54 PM
Hey guys i need some advice,

I bought my rx7 last year with the full intention of changing her from Automatic to manual. The car already had a power fc commander in it which i\'m told does not work with the automatics as it controls the engine only and does not speak to the ecu for the gearbox.

Due to some other commitments i simply dont have the money till early next year to change the gearbox over to manual. Would you think its worthwhile me getting an auto ECU to use in the car until i can get it changed? I\'ve looked about and they are approx £50 or so.

Its just atm if i break to stop then the car stalls, the gear changes are quite violent and completely unexpected and i\'ve been told if this carries on it will destroy my gearbox. My girlfriends hours are being expanded which means she will need the main car more often and i will need to use the rex a little over winter. I just dont want to knacker it up or anything.

What would you do in my position?

Any info or help on this would be great.

Thanks

General Technical / Coolant buzzer problems again!
October 18, 2012, 07:52:44 PM
Found out why the buzzer was going off!

Found that a connector had come loose and detached down by the spark plugs. Must have come loose from the engine vibration (plastic connector looks broken) so will have to electrical tape it to keep it together. However as soon as i reconnected them the buzzer went off!

Strange as i took the pipe to the back of the TB off and filled with coolant it was pouring out of both the rubber pipe and the TB so it couldnt have been an air lock. so decided to check electrical connectors and sure enough one was not connected.

Happy ending!

General Technical / Coolant buzzer problems again!
October 16, 2012, 07:03:15 PM
Hey guys,

Thanks for the quick reply, just been out to her now and had a go at bleeding the system to see if the buzzer would go off. Now i used a crude but effective old irn bru bottle cut in half as a filler. Put it in the filler cap (or the hole) topped up till about a 3rd full then started the engine. I ran the car upto 84 degrees and it wouldnt go any higher, well it got to 85 but thats it.  So id assume the thermostat was fully open. Not many bubble came up and i tried massaging all the pipes i could see however the buzzer continued to sound. I checked the overflow and it was between the lines of full and empty.

The only other thing im going to do soon is trade as many pipes as possible for silicone or new pipes etc. Although i\'ve already replaced quite a few.

Could there be a blockage in the block? Im just thinking how to move it on out.

General Technical / Coolant buzzer problems again!
October 15, 2012, 08:46:50 PM
Hey guys,

I\'m in need of some help again. After starting my rx7 up today the low buzzer warning came on. This hasn\'t came on for ages since i bled the system and used a bottle of k-seal. Now i would say that a coolant seal has gone however there is no smoke coming from exhaust after the few few minutes (condensation smoke) and it idles fine. Are there any hotspots for coolant pipe leaks etc? Such as at the turbo? Ive checked everything in visible range but im wondering if its something hidden somewhere.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Is there a low buzzer warning for the power steering fluid level?

Its just i found what looks similar to the low coolant sensor in the top of the power steering pump. Could this affect it?

cheers
