General Technical / RX8 mixture too rich
October 04, 2011, 10:48:44 AM
Hi all need some help to diagnose a fault on my 2005 RX-8

I had it de-catted just after an engine rebuild from hayward rotary, all seemed fine (not even a fault code), put the cat back on for the MOT, passed all fine, put the de-cat back on at the weekend, after a bit of driving it started getting very sluggish and jolting, engine fault light came on, had it read by Kwick fit, and it said, mixture too rich, they re-set it, and I done a full ecu re-set, took it out for another drive and it\'s done exactly the same again, cutting out sometime when I stop at traffic lights and the same fault code has flagged up.

Any suggestions on what this might be? It must be something I have done whilst changing bk to the de-cat as it was fine before...?

Thanks Scott.

General Technical / emmisions fix
August 08, 2011, 10:10:21 AM
Hi guys, small thread hijack, what sort of HC levels are you getting with no cat? I have an rx8 that recently only just scrapped through an emissions test with HC levels of 160ppm (limit 200) the cat is only a couple of months old and the company who sold it to me are complaining that my high HC level killed the cat and that I clearly have an engine fault, any thoughts???

Think I might be able to make my way up for this one in my newly rebuilt rx-8, put a few more running in miles on the clock ;)

So my engine went a couple of weeks ago, Is currently being rebuilt by Hayward Rotary in Newbury, Carl Hayward was extreemly helpful and more than happy to run me through everything and even let me visit to see my engine and bits and the failed parts. My car is a 55 plate 231 with 54k mile on. I checked the oil religeously every week, but it would seem that she prob wasn\'t right when I got her and then pushed her hard cos it didn\'t have the performance that I was looking for, and the end result, Cracked Apex seals, this is what mine looked like when I went to see them:

How Do!

I\'m new on here and thought I might as well start off with some pics of my car, 2006 RX-8 231 in velocity red. Only had her about a year now but loved every minute (except when the coils went! only time she\'s let me down yet tho!) So yeah some of these pics are from when I first got her but she\'s not changed much!

Enjoy...
