Hi Tom, thats an epic car you got. 3 rotor fd. We spent a bit of time chatting. Hope you get that throttle issue sorted.

Thanks Jon, and yeah I enjoyed our chat. Hope to run into you at the next event. Will be getting the throttle and a couple of other minor things sorted soon hopefully.

Was great meeting you all, and +1 on the thanks to Malcolm and others involved in organising. It's the first event I've been to with the car really, and plan to come along to more.

Hi, I'm planning on bringing my 20B FD. Looking forward to it!

Wanted Items / Re: FD 99+ Brake Booster

Hi Clive, thanks for you reply. It's all coming down to timing with the car booked in at the end of this month.

I'm guessing Mazda just sell the smaller profile one to fit all models. I'm looking for the slimmer design to make heat management around the turbo easier.

WTB 1999 or later brake booster. Almost had one on eBay but it was already gone  :(

Thanks Clive and Grant. Super helpful.

Any ideas where I can get some of these things worked on? I live in London and have been taking the car out to a workshop in Oxfordshire. Experience there has been good but a workshop closer to home would be good.

So I have one of these (not fitted) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290967101425

Workshop that fitted new diff and LSD advised this diff brace seemed to be wrong item for my car and too flimsy to help anyway (?).

Sounds like it'd be worth getting these addressed properly (bushings) and various braces and then see how I go.

It's roughly 644hp at flywheel (measured on a chassis dyno with drivetrain correction). Not sure about torque.

I did have significant wheel hop on that start line. Perhaps that was the issue.

160mph is way above what I'm expecting so this is good to know. What about the RX-8 6 speed though?

Hi all, thanks for replies.

I'm surprised to hear that about stock diff. I broke mine on the start line of a hill climb (not especially good traction) earlier this year, and just to get going again, replaced with same 3.9 and added Kaaz LSD. Rather than risk blowing this up at the strip I thought I should do something more proactive. Definitely open to alternatives.

I believe there are IRS versions of Cobra diff but I don't know much about them. Just asking around people running street drag FDs in the US.

I'm mainly looking for workshops with experience so I can discuss it with them.

Anyone know where I could go to get a drag racing driveline like T56 gearbox + cobra 8.8 installed in an FD in the UK? I have a 20B turbo setup but the RX-8 gearbox and factory rear end with Kaaz LSD isn't going to cut it on the strip.

Ha good point.  It's since got a turbo bag but I'll definitely check when I see the car next!

Thanks. I'm actually away for work on the 27th but will watch out for other events.

I might post up more details and photos too once it's sorted.

Hi all,

I've been lurking for years but felt motivated to say hi as my car is nearing completion.  My 20B FD should be on the road this week.  Keen to meet up at club meets and get to know you guys.

I've been into rotaries since 1998 and owned a 12A Turbo RX-3 and 13B turbo S3 RX-7 back in Australia.  I moved to the UK in 2007 and have had this project car underway for over 5 years now.

Cheers,

Tom
