Hi Malcolm,

Yes I remember that day, typical sunny August :)
Will do some more research whilst I bide my time.

Thanks again and I look forward to getting in a rotary again

Hi Clive,

Thanks for the info.  Think I might take a look at the RX8 once the house is sold then.
Quite tempted to get one in need of a rebuild and then get work done straight away on it to get it to how I would like it.

Has anyone got any thoughts or preferences with regards to porting the engine in the RX8?

Thanks

Morning all,

Been lurking around the forum again after seeing a great looking RX3 for sale on Ebay (unfortunately wont be affording something like that just yet) but it did get me thinking about rotaries again.  Currently have an EP3 for general fun stuff which I like but after owning 2 EGI's im not enjoying it as much as either of them.  Yes its faster in a straight line, newer and not to slow in the bends but it doesn't really excite me as much.

So now thinking of what to get next year once I sell my house and move in with the girlfriend.

First thought was an RX8 as have always liked them and if I keep the interior the kids would also like it as they love going out for a drive now and then.  Quick question though for any taller owners, is there plenty of head room when wearing a helmet for track days?
Im 6'1 and in the FC had to slouch a bit to fit in.

Still tempted by another EGI though as I did love it and always wanted to PP or Bridgeport one and would be able to do such things next year.

What are the RX8's like once ported?

Thanks

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / What would you buy?
November 01, 2012, 01:49:13 PM
If it was me it would have to be some kind of BMW.  I loved E36 328 Touring.  It was quick, fun and spacious.  I havent looked in ages but im guessing you could get an E46 for that budget, but for me I always preferred the 36 and so you could get a very nice one for that money.
A lot were recalled as well due to the Nikasil issues at one point so (like in the one I had) it had basically had a new bottom end from 60k.

Can you not put a towbar on the FC?? :)

General Technical / Ignition issue on EGI
July 20, 2012, 04:12:48 PM
Will do Mitch. Throttle does not make any difference. When I had to move it, I ended up holding key as if starting it up whilst I reversed up drive. Then when I was ready to switch off I just let go of the key.

Thanks again

General Technical / Ignition issue on EGI

If I dont hold the key as if I was trying to start it, the car starts and then just shuts down.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

General Technical / Ignition issue on EGI
July 20, 2012, 01:51:30 PM
Hi,
Finally getting some time to look at my EGI after major cooling issues of last year. Went to start it the other day and car starts but dies straight away. Noticed that if I held key in start position it stayed on fine (still have cooling problems to resolve though).
Would this problem be with the ignition switch?

Thanks

Grinder, if you are able to get it transported to you for a reasonable price I am prepared to give her away to the right person.  Whilst I would not get my scrap money, at least she might be used to help some other members.

2nd generation RX-7's / Wanted urgently
January 25, 2012, 10:53:55 AM
Basically have had an ultimatum to get rid of one of the EGI\'s for ages and now need it gone.  Am just about ready to take engine out as I want to hang onto that.

Unfortunately time is a massive issue for me (hence why it has taken so long to get to where I am now).  No time during the week because of work and no time at weekends as my wife works nights so whilst she sleeps I need to do jobs and look after the 3 little ones.

I will see what I can do with regards to any of the requests above as and when I next get a chance to go out and work on her.

Oh and there is no exhaust left as this one had RB system which has since moved onto my other EGI as the one that was on there fell to pieces :(

Skifle - if you could give me some info on where I might find these parts then I will see what I can do when work on the car again.  Sorry but I am a mechanical numpty so know very little about cars unfortunately.

Thanks

Quote from: the hat;808918I require ideally some bRaided brake hoses

And a ns front wing in good condition or a aftermarket front bumper which will hide the rust at the bottom of the wing

Shame you werent closer as you could of just had my EGI (minus engine which is coming out now) for £60

2nd generation RX-7's / newbie 13b engine carbs ?
December 31, 2011, 10:50:53 AM
No problem.  Whilst I want to have a V8 powered car one day im with Skifle on this and say that I would stick with the rotary.

Like I said if I had the money I would port, ITB etc.

Handling can also be dramatically improved on these cars so you could also consider this.
I have the Racing Beat anti roll bars and drop links on my car and these make a massive difference.  Some Hawk pads, DOT 5.1 fluid and braided lines also improved the brakes a lot.  Also at the time added Brembo plain discs that were only £60 for the front and these have worked well on and off the track.

But at the end of the day do whatever floats your boat :)

Thanks

2nd generation RX-7's / newbie 13b engine carbs ?

Quote from: kyledim;804128I have also been advised on throttle bodies, has anyone had any experience with this ?

I think your right Bryan, v8 would be great but completion I would be looking at around 2 yrs without cutting corners. That doesnt bother me, however I do not want to bite off more than I can chew

Hi Kyle,

Again no experience but have a look on Ausrotary for tweakit ITBs.
I have seen a few threads with people using them over there.
Heres a link to the tweakit site where they have a lot of rotary stuff

2nd generation RX-7's / newbie 13b engine carbs ?
December 28, 2011, 03:44:46 PM
Hi Kyle,

Over the course of my ownership of my 2 EGIs I have spent ages looking into various power options with a views that if I ever have some money I might be able to upgrade my car (this still hasn\'t happened yet unfortunately).

Anyway I have looked down the supercharger route and this was looking expensive unless you happen to be a decent mechanic who can do this sort of thing yourself.  So far as I could tell there are no kits available for the 13b with the exception of a Paxton (IIRC) sold in the states which by all accounts seems to suck power from your car or give you very minimal gains).

As for carbing I also looked at this and if you search for threads started by me you should find one about this which Rotorheid talks a lot in (he uses an EGI with a Weber 48 or 51 IDA on for hill climbs).  I do believe you can make gains with one of these on.

I still have my 2 cars and at the minute I am pulling the engine from one of them for possible future use.
Again if I ever get spare money I would ideally like to rebuild this engine, port it in the process with either a Bridge or Peripheral Port and in a perfect world would like to go the route of ITB\'s for that extra power and awesome sound.

You can find loads of info on Ausrotary and RX7club for this sort of thing.

I did happen to search on application of bikecarbs on the 13b just a few days ago and unless you know a tried and tested carb with regards to jetting etc then you could spend a hell of a lot of time trying to set the damn things up on the 13b (from what I have read and from no experience of my own).  If you are going to carb then use the Weber or Dellorto 48.  Both have a lot of info out there with regards to jetting etc, as well as suitable manifolds which can be bought of the shelf.

Oh one thing to think about with whatever you do is to think about what you want to use the car for?  I really enjoy tracking mine and have also done some grass autotests.  If I want to continue to track the car a PP would most likely stop me from going to a lot of tracks as the noise from the car would be too much.

Good luck anyway.
