Maybe I have some other issues with my car,  putting the bung in drops my boost down from 10psi to under 5,  and it makes it rev fairly un-smoothly.  Any chance we could get a video KrisD1 of how yours sounds?

Did you change your exhaust yet Adam?  I am having the same troubles with my ebay special 3" straight through.  Pulled over by the pOlice this morning too is making me think I should change or tweak it.  I could put the baffle back in the end but it sucks all the power out of the car :S

2nd generation RX-7's / Dump valve issues
December 03, 2009, 03:26:39 PM
Hey everyone,  so I managed to get my car mot\'d it\'s been running pretty good for the last 2ish weeks ignoring a few fanbelt issues.  I fancied a bit of pACHISSSH action so I bought a relatively cheap dump valve off ebay it\'s a single piston fast road forge dumpvalve,  it seems like pretty good quality.  Anyways I slapped that on,  replacing the recirculating valve thing that was already there,  I plugged up the hole that it left going into the airbox,  and connected the vacuum pipe that came off of that to the dump valve.

After this the car ran pretty poorly, rubbish idle, backfiring when coming off the loud pedal,   still boosting pretty well though and making a nice pACHISH sound,  so I figure I messed something up putting it on, or got the wrong kind of dump valve,  I think I read somewhere on here that you need a twin piston dump valve to make it idle properly?

It seems to me like the dump valve is leaking air on tick over messing up the air flow and causing over fueling and the bad idle.  Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the input. The calipers are all sorted now so there not sticking, there was a lot of crud in the Master Brake cylinder which is now cleaned out, new brake calipers and discs on the way.  So should be stopping properly shortly!

2nd generation RX-7's / 2 MOT failures in 1 week, yay!

After a few months of tinkering and fixing things, I finally got my car back on it\'s wheels last weekend,  All ready to fail the MOT on monday.
There were 4 things it failed on,  I created a bit of an open pocket on the underside with my welding repairs, brakes, hand brake, and hand brake again ?,  so during the week the brakes were jimmy\'d about, they were really seized,  the front pads were very unevenly worn as 2 of the pots on both sides were seized all together, so there is like 1 new and 1 worn out pad on each side.
Sorted out the open pocket, by bashing it closed and welding it together.  Some other advisory bits were fixed to, like a water leak (pipe had blown off) and un-secured battery.

The car went in for it\'s second MOT this morning, which I really thought it was going to pass.  Well it didn\'t hence the title,  It only failed on one thing this time though, the brakes.
Efficiency had gone up from 20% to about 47% the minimum required is 50% but apparently it should be up around 75%.  So third time lucky hopefully, will probably be some time next week before I can go for another one.
I\'m hoping some new pads on the front will sort it out,  and there was some talk that the master brake cylinder might be knackered so I may have to get a new one of those too.  Almost 3 months of ownership and I haven\'t even driven my car yet, sad times.

2nd generation RX-7's / egay bargins??

I have one of those exhausts fitted to my t2, it\'s pretty good quality for the price, really nice welds,  it does sit a bit high and off to the right which is annoying, as it touches the rear bumper, so I\'m gonna have to chop into that I think so it doesn\'t get melted.  It is loud, only heard it at under 4k revs as my car is on axle stands in the garage, at that sort of speed it seems tolerable though, I\'d say go for it!
