3rd generation RX-7's / Coolant woes
January 27, 2013, 11:49:26 AM
My FD has been off the road for best part of the year, with an issue with overheating... now i\'m just getting round to either fixing it or sadly selling it on as a non runner :(

Car starts up fine, it heats up to temperature as usual then after a minute or so the temp will start to rise at this point i turn the ignition off! Coolant seems to be expanding and then overflowing out of the bottle - losing a lot of water.

Wondering if anyone has seen similar issues - i\'m thinking water pump is knackered? I can\'t be certain, but i\'m pretty sure this issue only started appearing intermittently after i had coolant change and clutch fitted at a garage.

Been offered a straight swap on a mates working mitsibushi GTO but id really rather keep the FD if it is repairable.

General Technical / Ah..am i looking at a rebuild?

Guys, my FD has been losing water.

Tried to start it today, admittedly for the first time in a couple of weeks and it wouldn\'t start. Now this has never happened ever. Kept at it and after a minute or so of faffing it eventually came to life - only with a ton of smoke coming out of the tail pipe!

It was actually oilly blue smoke not white coolant and eventually died down after a bit. I popped the bonnet as the low coolant light came on and when i went to top it up i seen what looked like coolant steam coming up from the passenger side of the engine - couldn\'t make out where though (turbos?).

Any ideas? Do i start saving for the rebuild and decide if i should go single or not at the same time...

General Technical / Coolant buzzer
August 10, 2011, 09:46:15 PM
Cheers guys, will take a look at all that over the next few days :Thumbs-up

Just to add what i\'ve noticed now is that the buzzer will start to buzz always more or less when it is started from cold, but it will always stop once heated up a bit - just after it goes past the 2 notch on the dash temp gauge...

Doesn\'t seem to use any coolant, i\'m still thinking now actually that it could  be air as i seriously don\'t think it done it before it got  changed.  Ah not had coolant level paranoia in a while!

Im getting the low coolant buzzer coming on sometimes now when i start my fd up for anywhere between 20secs-a couple of minutes and it goes off.

Its only really started doing this since it had a coolant change a few weeks ago, reckoned it was air in the system but tried bleeding it and hasn\'t really made much difference... :3Confused Thinking maybe sensor is knackered, or any other ideas? Its definitely not low on coolant!

3rd generation RX-7's / Intake pipes
February 18, 2011, 10:32:03 AM
Ah, see thing is i\'m using the Autoexe carbon intake so i\'m looking for something that will fit with the that which is pretty much where the standard airbox sits - so i reckon whatever works with the standard box should be fine.
Not really wanting to change my intake as looks great (sad i know..) just want some nice shiny pipes for it!

The closest i can find to them on ebay mate are these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FD3S-MAZDA-RX7-92-01-INTERCOOLER-KIT-HARD-PIPES-FD-3S-/220655822887?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33601ca827

They look the right shape to me, but they\'re sold as "intercooler pipes"...

Anyone know where i can pick up metal hard pipes that replace the plastic accordion looking ones that go between the air intake to the turbos?

General Technical / Issue after intake manifold removal
November 04, 2010, 04:41:41 PM
Got it from rotaryart mate, pretty quick.

I did phone my local Mazda dealer but I gave up after the usual "oh...ehh...... errr......em" confusion as soon as you mention rx7 to them! :)

Yeah, i reckon it is more or less oem. Im not running severe high power, on twins 300fwhp. Wondering what clutch to go for, i don\'t really want to burn another one out after 10k! Maybe i should drive it a bit more sympathetically:Giggle
