Depends how you are driving it. The 2nd turbo needs a minimum boost pressure for the various solenoids to work to bring it into play. So if you are still running the engine in, and not giving it large amounts of right foot, you may simply not be generating enough boost to open the y-pipe flapper and get the 2nd turbo push. The 2nd turbo does pre-spool, but if the boost pressure isn\'t right, it does not join in the fun. Also, on FD\'s that I have had, the point at which the 2nd one kicks in is variable, 3.5-4.5k rpm roughly. So at 5k rpm it may be right at the point where you have got the 2nd one kicking in, but also just at the point you are probably lifting off \'cos the revs have got to around 5k. You really need to wait until the engine is run in and you can give it WOT to 6 or 7k (or red line!).

General Technical / Coolant Help!
October 07, 2009, 12:14:34 PM
One possibility is the cap on the AST. It allows coolant expansion to the overflow bottle, but also allows flow back. Could be the cap is old and starting to fail, and only allowing fluid out to the overflow, but not back when the engine is cooling? Try a new cap. That\'s not to say you don\'t have a more serious problem, but it is a simple place to start.

Quote from: Mims;630982Lengthened Y pipe comes with the kit. Whats your email? I\'ll give you a detailed description of fitment etc.

If you wouldn\'t mind, please! flyinghigh(at)hotmail(dot)co(dot)uk.

Thanks!

Quote from: Mims;630913The entire pack is about 1/2 longer than standard, which is why the Y-Pipe needs to be lengthened.

Wow, that sounds like some big increase. Thanks for taking the time reply. That isn\'t clear from their website description (unless I\'ve missed something obvious!).

Thanks - I had the impression from the BNR website that the housings were the same as standard but that it is the internals that are altered. Which part of the BNRs are larger?

Why do you need to loose the air pump?
#8
What I meant was, can they be swapped directly on a standard car without all the extra bits\'n\'pieces. I appreciate that there is untapped potential being wasted, but as a more reliable set of twins, can they be used on the standard set up of the FD? Thanks!

Can BNRs be used a direct replacement for a knackered turbo pack on a standard car?

Cheers fellas!

Do Rotechniks actually repair the turbos or do you think they farm it out to another company?

Thanks!

Hi,

Seem to be getting lots of oil in the pipework from the turbos to the intercooler and back in the airbox through the bov. I am guessing there is an oil seal in one or both of the turbos on its way out.

Any recommendations of who to use to get them looked at and re-sealed?

Thanks!

General Technical / Hestitation under any load...
March 30, 2009, 10:19:35 AM
Hi there,

Yes, the car is standard and stock ECU. I did try the re-boot as described, and no difference. Went back to it yesterday. The car has been sat for many months without being really driven, to be honest no idea how old the petrol is either! 6months at least since I put any fresh stuff in. Tank was almost empty so I lumped in some 109octane fuel I had hanging around, then off to the petrol station for fresh stuff. Put in about half a tank and chucked in a bottle of injector cleaner. Low and behold â€" it seems loads better! Not 100%, but no severe bucking when the throttle is touched with a feather! Even dared to try WOT, and no hesitation. Fingers crossed the problem is sorted…that said there is always another one waiting, isn’t there!

Could trythe plugs, but they are pretty new - don\'t understand why they would just go off? Car is bone stock, no tweaks at all.

Fuel starvation? Would a dirty fuel filter cause this symptom?

General Technical / Hestitation under any load...
March 26, 2009, 01:11:13 PM
Hi there,

My FD is virtually undrivable at the moment. It is really hesitant under any kind of load, any where through the rev range, even when pulling away (gently, by the way!). Any ideas what could be causing this? It starts perfectly, and idles very smoothly - and when revved at standstill (when warmed up!) it is also smooth. No noticable pipes missing or cracked etc. I\'m at a bit of a loss of what to look out for!

Any pointers gratefully recieved.

Thanks!

3rd generation RX-7's / Hesitation
March 10, 2009, 02:38:46 PM
Hi there,

I would appreciate some pointers please! My FD (unmodded) developed a hesitation last year around the transition between the primary and secondary turbos. I though it was to do with the vac/pressure system, and replaced several solenoids and lines. But, the problem is just getting worse. It now hesitates through out the rev range with the slightest press of the accelerator. I am now thinking that it is something else! Any thoughts on what will cause this? The boost gauge reads steady pressure even while it is hesitating. Is it fueling? Ignition? Any help would be appreciated!
  Thanks!
