I have recently fitted a air pump blanking kit to my FD but im stuck with a pipe that I have no idea where it goes?? any ideas I think it might have gone to the original airbox as a breather or something but ive got HKS intakes so no longer have hole to plug it up too.

General Technical / Few questions on decatting fd
December 13, 2010, 11:04:44 PM
Quote from: captainbizzaro;732553I think I know that Stratos replica-it\'s on my wishlist! Gurston is a great little course but as you know thats a tight turn and steep exit at the bottom requiring a bit of low down grunt so I\'m with turbotoaster mate.

Whatever happens let us know if you compete around here-I\'ll turn up and wave a rotary flag!

its a green one with a yamaha derived 2.0 V8 mad little thing. That would be great to have some rotary support lol, will hopefully be doing it, bit more work do do on the car then it should be ready.

General Technical / Few questions on decatting fd

Quote from: captainbizzaro;732368Where you gonna Hillclimb bud-Gurston and Longleat?

not sure yet hopefully Gurston, I have a friend that hillclimbs a stratos replica and have been going with him the last few years so wanna try myself, think an fd would really do well at this.

I wanted to go non seq because ive got probs with it boosting at the moment, second turbo sometimes doesnt kick in, I know I should get it fixed first but thought going nonseq getting rid of most the rats nest would cure it.

Will go small single, but cant afford at the moment.

General Technical / Few questions on decatting fd
December 12, 2010, 03:26:05 PM
ok so i need a boost controller, im planning to get the car mapped at RXmotors as its just down the road from me, what about this sensor on the cat, ive heard its a temp sensor, do i need it?

The reason I was planning to go nonseq is im planning to use the car for hillclimbs and Im not keen on the boost drop between the turbo kicking in.

I have a decat pipe that im fitting to my car, im removing the air pump system and I have a power fc that im going to put in. First question what do I do with the sensor on the opposite side of the air pump inlet i have no hole for it is it needed, if not how can i get rid of it with no probs. Secondly im prob going to go non sequential setup, do I need a boost controller, 3rd should I get an uprated fuel pump. thanks luke

Quote from: nikp;720862Hey lucasl - don\'t spose you have a red J-reg FD with number plate J277? Just that i saw my old one for sale on Pistonheads being sold and the seller was saying they were planning on putting a 1JZ engine in it.

Hey no close mines red but k reg, but as i said for what im gonna use it for i would not change the engine.

Quote from: Lil-Steve;718998To be honest the thing that attracted me to the FD3S is the 13b in the first place. The exoticness, the noise, the revs. It\'s bad enough wanting to stick some yankee pig iron under the bonnet (no disrespect, and I know they use ally nowdays) but an Audi I5 is a new low..... :Giggle

[RANT] It\'s like when Americans buy an old Countach and replace the carbed V12\'s because they\'re unreliable and "ain\'t got enough torque dude" what an ace way to spoil a perfectly good car.

If that\'s your cup of tea then fine, personaly I\'d rather subject myself to a weeks worth of genital torture. In fact if I did, I think that\'s what the wife would do to me, in fairness she\'d be right. [/RANT]

Haha youve kind of lost the plot here, I would bet money that nobody daily drives a Countach, they would be collectors or enthusiasts so they dont care about mpg. Ive never heard of v8\'s in countach\'s only kit cars, but agree that would ruin it putting that in there.

The rotary engine is an amazing peice of kit, small, lightweight, powerfull. The perfect ingredients for racing, but in my opinion thats it. It good for weekend fun, racing, second car type thing, but if you wanted to realistically use one as a daily driver, you would have to have a lot of spare cash and time to work on it or get it worked on. I have gone through quite a few cars since posting on here and currenty daily drive a 05 BMW 645 and yes its cheaper to run then the rx7. About 2 weeks ago I drove across europe on cruise control at 110mph for upto 3 hours at a time, now seriously could a rotary fd do that.

Saying this I still have an fd in the garage that im building up to use for hillclimb events and for that I wouldnt dream of changing the engine.

General Technical / belt for airpump delete
May 28, 2010, 01:19:13 PM
that one doesnt look anything like the gilmer one here it is below
http://www.mazdarotaryparts.com/brx-7-fd-mrp-exclusive--fan-belt-for-air-pump-removalb-740-p.asp

The one in the pic looks like a custom made one using a supercharger belt, im guessing in the usa supercharger belts can be made to any size and pulleys can be bought in many sizes so is probably a cheap alternative for them.

I guess i would also need a better exhaust system is it best to run decat and swap in for mot or run with the cat/s in does the fd have 1 or 2 cats? still learning about the rx7s.

Do you mean an uprated fuel pump like walbro or something. Im only looking to run around 400hp. What is safe sort of power to run on a standard engine, ie no porting for reliability also, thanks

Im considering getting a single turbo kit for my fd, ive found a kit that has;

Borg Warner T04 turbo
Manifold
Wastegate
Downpipe
Oil lines
Air filter
All other required flanges, nuts, bolts, washers

I have a complete standard rx7 even exhaust and intake, what other parts would i need im just trying to work out a price estimate, thanks.

Quote from: royal;559464After seeing the 2jz on the driftworks car I was completely gobsmacked. Either option would be awesome IMO. Arn\'t the 2jz guys in the states the ones getting the best results? I remember reading some stuff on rx7club about them trying to catch up with the 2jz peeps?

The 2jz imo would be the best for high hp and good torque, but really like the look of the 1j especially the vvti unit which had yamaha help develop it. I dunno if id do it just looks a good option.

Quote from: Timmy;55946360kg thats like haveing a small cow stuck in you front bumper.
The ls will use little fuel when driven normaly the car will move on tickover.
1 or 2 jz\'s are also pretty close to as thirsty as a 13b.

No way my 2JZ turbo supra defo uses less than my 7.
