After the bad experience buying an Elford Turbo with a supposedly good engine earlier last year I\'m now insisting that any car I\'m interested in has a compression test first - I\'d rather waste the thirty to forty quid that costs then have to pay a couple of thousand straight away...

Anyway, the latest set of lucky numbers to come through are 6.4-6.9 on the front rotor and 5.5-5.8 on the rear. I can live with the numbers on the front rotor but I\'ve got my doubts about the values on the back...

Anybody care to hazard a guess how close to a rebuild this engine is? FC Turbo II with about 70k on the clock, presumed to be the original engine.

Rears are almost alway more worn then the fronts. The 1 bar difference is just into mazda specs.

But 30-40 pounds for a compressiontest? wow, i need to adjust my price for a compressiontest (17.40 pounds,25 euro\'s and that\'s with a digital compressiontester and done twice)

The Elford kit is a full "mechanical regulated" kit.... no electronics required :)

No electronics means less problems ;)

Offset = ET = 25 (for stock5.5JJ) FB boltpattern would be 4x 114,3 and for SA 4x 110 ET 25 (for stock 5.5JJ)

hmm, doesn\'t seem to be able to get a reply from him... maybe someone else that knows? thought that a 12A with the elford turbo was more common in uk?

Sorry, your mail got caught up in the chaos....busy, busy :( even have not got much time for the forum :(

antnicuk is right, box does not more than that..... and also regulate the interiorlights to dim :)

fith syncro is shot, together with the Shift Select Spindle

Mazda has made modifications to these parts, to prevent failure

Partnumbers :

Shift Select Spindle : R503 17 550
5th Gear Synchronizer : W501 17 725B

Shift select spindle is easy.Syncro is more work, but problem will be fixed, and not return.

well... a "non" stock Elford.....

what I did was get an A/F ratio gauge..... and get some SU needle software to search for a "better" needle, untill you have the nicest and safe A/F ratios.

At least.... that\'s what I did, but only thing stock on my elford is the turbo ;), but then again, I now got 225 RWHP out of a non-ported 12A, so it was worth the troubles ;)

I can look at the stock Elfords we have and look for the needles numbers, jet\'s are always 100\'s i thought, because the carb should be a SU HIFF44.

hope you can do something with this info, the Elford are dying out :(

Mike ,

I want to keep my bearings healthy, so I choose the make the wheels with this config;

8JJ x 15" 4x110 boltpattern ET -7 (minus)

this way the force on the bearings stays the same and I completely fill up the arches

My new wheels for my 12a turbo have arrived.
And just in time for my holiday to the Tjech Republic!

Ehhh maybe a stupid wuestion, but did you line up the clutch on the flywheel? otherwise you wont get the clutch lined up with the gearbox bellhousing...
#13
Ehh dumb questions don\'t exist I always say.. but.... Is your throttlecable maybe to tight? That indeed is the idle screw, it should now only be visible from above when you look into the hole is in.

It is always recommended to let the turbo spin down a bit after a drive. A couple a minutes should be enough.

A little smoke a start-up is normal, nothing to worry about.

(sorry about the english, but I\'m in a hurry and I\'m dutch :D )

REgards,

Mireck

Choke does not retract by itself,

And indeed, replace dampening fluids as a minimum....

And elfords doesn\'t have any emissions dooda\'s

But Idle screw removed? give us some pictures, maybe you\'re looking at the wrong screw?:D

About the dashboards, look here

http://rxseven.demon.nl/html/diversen_0.html

Gauge on top is 1979 and gauge belowe is 1981

Site is going to be updated with more of these, "little" differences between years.

hopes this helps,

Ow.. about the lights, JDM have the light the other way around, directionlights (sorry for my english ;) ) are located toward each other (left directionlight is on the RIGHT side of the lens en the right directionlight is on the LEFT side of the lens)
I know this because a crazy dealer from holland has a 1979 "Savanna" (yes the one with the mirrors on the fenders and with max speed at 180 Kmph)
