Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Ben's '88 RX-7 GTU
October 16, 2025, 07:29:09 PM
Hello, all!

Long time member here, some of you old timers may remember me from back in the day.

I left the UK in 2011 having owned a couple FC's in Europe. I'm now on my 2nd FC on another continent. I live in Colorado now, no regrets.

The current is a 88 GTU. So it started life as a non-turbo, it's primary purpose is my track car but I (just about) keep it street legal.

2025 SPEC LIST:

Interior:
OMP HTE-R Seat
OMP 300MM wheel
Powertune Digital Dash

Exterior:
Turbo hood/bonnet with RE-A style reverse scoop
RE-A Type 2 rear spoiler
Corksport lip

Engine/Drivetrain:
S4 motor with new S4 turbo housing
S4 NA Irons
S4 Turbo LIM
S6 LIM
Greddy S6 elbow
Custom low V mount layout intercooler
Street Ported
BNR turbo
Racing Beat header/manifold
Haltech 1500
All emissions removed
ACT clutch
340LPH DeatschWerks Fuel Pump
DeatschWerks inline fuel filter
Peterson inline oil filter
Koyo radiator
Turblown baffled oil filler
Custom vented catch can
Custom baffled oil pan
Flex Fuel E85 sensor
Custom vented fuel tank
1050 + 1300 ID injectors
LS coil packs
HKS 3" Exhaust + straight pipe
Greddy Air filter mounted in front of radiator

Suspension & Chassis:
Fortune Auto Coilovers
Racing beat sway bars & endlinks
Factory GTU 4-pot calipers w/ Hawk DTC pads
Aftermarket toe arms + Camber link

Wheels:
Street: Rays Volk Evo 3 17x8 front and 17x9 rear w/ Maxxis VR1 tyre 245 wide tire
Track: 5zigen FN01R-C 17x9 square w/ Bridgestone RE-71RS 255 wide tire

2025 plans include swapping the turbo drivetrain w/ new clutch & flywheel, vented D-max style hood (needs more cooling on track) IGN1A coils and I've got a bolt in roll bar/cage and OMP harness to fit. I need some more camber and I may try to get some wider rubber out back, front is pretty maxed with the 255/40/17 on the 17x9 +30 wheel.

Hope everyone is doing well back home, I don't miss it  :great:

Ha, what was at lucky 7 racing in LA when I picked her up.

And you're assuming I'm not disabled ;) In the modern world that's punishable by the highest of all sentences... social media outrage!!!!  :nono:

She's had recent new paint and engine rebuild before being in my possession.

I've had the following done:

New transmission saddle & mounts
New waterpump
Rebuilt oil metering pump
Rebuilt engine harness (loom)
S5 turbo
Ported wastegate
FD fuel pump
New vacuum, coolant & water hoses
New polybushes all around
KYB adjustable shocks
Tanabe GF springs
New Riken Raptor ZR tires
Stoptech grooved rotors & pads
Works Bell QR kit
Works Bell Short hub
Nardi 330mm snap off wheel

and there's a a new magnaflow CARB approved Catalyst on the way.

There's a few things need fixing still, interior needs some love. Oil level light is on, needs sensor replacing, factory boost and water temp not working and the passenger window needs some attention. I'm 500 miles in on the new engine without boosting or going above 4k, once she's registered and smogged I should be able to really start to take off the stabilisers!

Fun, fun, fun... my 3rd FC in 3 countries!  :great:

I'll probably start a new progress thread and leave this one to die.

Ben

Shows SF twice now instead of Oakland.

Not a big deal really. Thanks anyway.

Any idea why on the left there it shows both 'San Francisco, CA' and Oakland, CA?

I checked settings and it doesn't say San Francisco in my profile anywhere  :dontknow:

I've never done it, but you can try putting the engine size as 1308cc, however you might find that they're wise to this trick now days!

Strange, I thought a follow up to the RX-7 was announced and due around 2015 aiming to compete with the FR-S/BR-Z?

Wouldn\'t be shocked to find out this is true though, with rapidly tightening emissions laws and rising fuel costs the practicality of a Rotary car is diminishing.

Sad times.

I went to the academy of science in Golden Gate park, it was pretty good. Some people really make the effort over here!

Hotmail is a problem.

I\'ve not encountered any unusual issues though lately, John.
