hi

i didnt get a comprhensive email just details about the rust on the boot, the key damage to the side the stone chips in the bonnet and then how it past the last mot with just one advisory which is why i was shocked when i checked the mot had lapsed 7 months ago so that advisory was from 19 months ago so means nothing especially if its been stood.
if you had called like you said you would in the post above i would of asked you all of the relavent questions regarding its history. recent use has it been started every week its been stood are the pictures actually recent etc etc etc but unfortunatley you just emailed me.

as far as posting on here this is a forum for enthusiasts so i felt it neccessary to post the information as it wasnt forthcoming in your ad above.

like i said im no longer interested but at least be replying to my post above you have given more information about the cars care than you gave me.

good luck with the sale i hope one of the 2 people that have viewed it already buy it.

Yeah that's fine. I've got someone who can collect it for me if I need to as long as it's mot'd so that's not an issue.

a bit of a thread resurrection this but did anyone on here buy this car or take a look at it??

its currently up for sale on a facebook rx7 sale thread for 3k with the same miles and no work done on it since it was bought. I was considering it but I think it might be a time bomb needing a lot of work underneath.

Thanks - interesting stuff - More steps (and products) in your process than I have taken when attempting this sort of thing a few times - with varying levels of success. I never quite achieved the sort of results the nice men on Connelly's exhibition stands were demonstrating. (One half of a cream leather P5 Rover seat dirty, cracked, creased and discoloured - the other looking showroom fresh....B******s!)  I know who to ask for advice if there's a next time.  :)

Did the process repair things like the little nicks in the surface of the hide (pic5?) and are the armrests etc also leather or plastic. If plastic, what do you use to fill and colour them with since it presumably needs to be flexible?

There are many different processes that can be used to sort out cracks, cuts and niks. It depends on position as a repairs requirements depends on use and movement required.
The arm rests on these are leather, as they dint get heavy wear I simply used an air drying flexible filler that I sanded if and then coloured over. The repair methods I use can 've used on vinyl and some plastics I do have other metids for repairs in solid plastics like holes and Nike in things like dashboard whuch uses completely different techniques.

so I recently carried out some renovation work to my lotus esprit door cards and thought I would show my work so you can see what can be achieved.

firstly I sent a sample of the original leather colour away to get colour matched I ordered 2 litres but as usual it is a close match but not perfect so I actually darkened and tinted the colour to get a result I was happy with.

so with the door panels removed I started to take some pics to show the procedure

both panels removed and untouched

some of the damage typical of many years use

we then remove the plastics and clean the leather this is done several times with water based and then solvent based cleaners

we use a brush and sponge to clean and then wipe of residue the cloth on the right is with the water based cleaner and the one on the left was after the solvent based cleaner, the solvent cleaner is very weak and just designed to lift and oils and grease but as can be seen in the left cloth the colour pigment was starting to come away, this is the pigment that had been applied to the door panel during a previous revamp which was clearly visible and was starting to crack and thin.

after cleaning

we then scuff up the surface lightly and to ensure a really good key I prefer to pre coat the leather with an adhesion promoter aswell then we spray the panels with many thin coats drying in between and once happy with the finish I seal the leather with a solvent based sealer that is harder wearing than the water based products

we then found some damage on the arm rest with some niks and cracking, this was filled, sanded, re coloured and sealed

once all parts had been sorted we reassembled both panels as can be seen below with the original pics next to it for comparison

lastly a few closer shots of previously damaged and discoloured areas

as you can see the results are very good to the extent that it almost looks like knew. this type of repair/renovation will never be 100% perfect but its pretty close, is long lasting when done correctly and if there is leather pigment left it is easy to repair little marks in the future.

so peoples options for this type of repair are simple you can buy a kit, they work very well when applied correctly and not rushed, if they are rushed they will not wear well or have a nice natural finish, you can get someone like me to do it (please note I don't openly offer this service through my small business regal upholstery ltd down here in Weymouth as I am to busy with my core home furniture repairs but hope to be able to late next year) a specialist will judge what is required more closely using additional products where needed to ensure the best results possible or you can go down the re-trimming route which will look amazing but cost an awful lot more.

the only other thing I will say on leather renovation is that over the last 20 years I have tried many products and there are some better than others, to do these repairs I actually used 3 different suppliers/manufacturers products. if anyone is looking to do some of this themselves and wants some help I will be happy to help.

hope you enjoyed the read  :D :D :D

i have for sale my montego blue fd 1993, it has a new MOT and is currently being used by me weekly.

i have details of the car in my build thread here http://www.fduk.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42182

and further details of the car when i bought it here http://www.fduk.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42094
please note that the spec has now changed to make this a lovely seq twins car with some choice mods. full details below

93 RX7 FD3S in Montego blue imported from japan in 2008 and had a full respray in 2012 in original colour at a cost of £2800. the previous owner had done a lot of work to the car prior to me purchasing it. The odometer reads 105,900km (which is slowly going up as i use the car), when the previous owner bought the car the odometer read around 82000km which was a mixture of KM and miles in short the previous owner calculated it had done around 55000 miles, since then that odometer gave up the ghost which is quite common with these cars and 102,000 was the closest available spare at the time, the previous owner had put around 3000 miles on it and i have put 200 miles on it with oil changes every 1000 miles, so around 58000 miles on the chassis itself. when i bought the car the MOT was just running out so i basicly bought it without one. it now has a new MOT carried out just 2 weeks ago.
It supposedly had a rebuild around 72,000km mark although I have no paperwork to prove this (it has therefore done around 13k miles), I have no reason to doubt it as compression is good in the 7's when i got trind to check once i had bought it see the pics below, it starts hot and cold and there is no oil or water loss.
The car was fully mapped by jaydee just last weekend and is running .85bar on first turbo and from memory between .8 and .85 on the second turbo with duty only maxing to 90% right at the highest revs so there is some room for more fueling as it gets hotter when booting it in the summer (please note the car is running standard injectors). the car pulls like a train and talking with jaydee we reckon should be running around 320 fwhp maybe a little more at these levels of boost with the accompanying mods.

spec list as follows

engine/performance

hks induction system
hks downpipe
cat back exhaust
aeromotive fpr
apexi power fc and commander
later turbo y pipe
hks smic hard pipes
supra in tank fuel pump with direct feed wiring
braided fuel lines
fuel lab filter fitted to rear subframe
new coils,plugs and leads
jaydee remap
simplified seq turbos with new silicon pipework and viton check valves all working perfectly
some polished pipework in engine bay for a nice look

Suspension and drive train

Powerflex Polybushes all round (covered around 700 miles)
Atomic rex pillow balls (covered around 700 miles)
Rebuilt differential
poly bushed diff mount
Megan Racing coilovers
Goodridge braided brake hoses
Goodridge braided clutch hose

Wheels

BBS rsII 17” wheels, 255 on the rear 225 on the front bridgestones potenza’s with 4mm tread

Interior

Feed Gearknob
Feed Gaitors
Momo wheel and boss
re trimmed leather and alcantara front seats
modded seat runners to go back fully for tall drivers
later plastics - gauge surround, centre console, heater surround, drivers door

Exterior

Fully resprayed in 2012 in montego blue - it really is in amazing condition
99 Spec rear lights
Red efini Badges
FEED Door handles
De-spoilered
feed style side steps

just a point of note these pics were taken of the car today and it was just washed and wiped over an not even polished that is how good the paint is

a couple of things i plan on doing just so i know i am happy -
full 4 wheel alignment check just to make sure now the bushes have bedded in (it all seems perfect driving it now just the steering wheel is not centered)
i have another gauge dome i will fit as the existing one was a bit past it when i fitted the plastics.

having looked all around the car when it went on the ramps for its pre mot check i am very happy with the overall condition is great and i found only one issue which was a small oil leak from the rear turbo drain bottom gasket so i sorted this and i fitted a new gasket and it no longer leaks.

it has had a new oil filter and oil. i actually drained the oil, filled with cheap oil and fitted a new filter then ran it up, drained that then filled it with a decent oil and another new filter just to be sure its all spot on. also when i re fitted the standard rad and intercooler i flushed the engine and filled with the correct amount of de ionised water and antifreeze.

the issue i would prob do if i kept the car would be to get the wheel lips polished and sealed again as with most of these wheels they are showing that its been used. they look fine from a distance just not great close up but from what i read this can be done relatively cheaply, a point of note on the wheels though is that the black paint is perfect.

if you have clicked on my build thread you will see why i am selling this car its purely so i can devote my time to the other fd project i have. all i can say about this montego blue car is it is a lovely drive with plenty of power accompanied by just the right amount of mods to make this one of the nicest fd road cars i have driven.

i would like £7495 for the car.

and on a final note if i get asking price there are some spares that can go with the car including some uprated discs which i think are black diamond a spare rad and intercooler and some other standard bits and bobs.

please email me on cymitchell@sky.com or call me on 07788552009

Fd,s can suffer from low end deccelaration kidder.

Check engine mounts maybe for for an upgrade here and also diff mounts upgrade to poly will improve this greatly.

Most likely pillows at the rear like you said.

Rattles could be loads of things. I would sort out the other bits first so you can rule out these ad contributing factors then see where the rattle is after that.

I see your in Dorset Purcyp.if you want to take a look over an fd I am in Weymouth and have 2 here one show car and one that is being sorted as a street sleeper for track days. Had fd,s for years so can go through what to look out for when buying one if you like.
