"John - Do you think the disparity between Vespa and Lambretta prices reflects their relative value as machines or market making by the trade?  As I remember the sixties both had their proponents and numbers were fairly equal...?"

I must admit to being biased and probably unable to give a balanced view. I think in the sixties there were two specific groups favouring either Lambretta or Vespa. I think there was a geographical split as well with more Vespas in the south. I have always considered the Lambretta a icon of design, similar to the 3rd gen, with timeless appeal. I have no idea of the relative values between Vespa and Lambretta as I wouldn't take a Vespa as a gift. It's a bit like MG owners in the 60's wouldn't give a Spitfire a second glance. I don't think prices are driven by market forces, just that specific items, be it bike or car just tick all the boxes.

As you probably gathered I've taken on a 1963 Lambretta project/hobby that will undoubtedly give me a lot of fun and when completed generate a lot more income than cash in the bank if I chose to sell.

I've joined a local scooter club that meet at a pub every Thursday and this is great as it feels similar the going to the regular MRC meets on the mid 2000's - Which I will always remember as being a bit special.

Enough of the thread highjack - no more scooter talk - promise.

Buy a Lambretta and restore it - but it must be Italian.

Sorry for that but Clive will understand

Hi Clive

Donington - that's close enough and it's about time we caught up.

I went to the 'buy tickets' on their web site but the event isn't listed, or am I missing something.

Hi

Mate of mine has bought an RX8 with a view to a piston transplant [I know]

The engine has a common fault, starts cold but not hot.

So, does he just bin it or does it have any value?

It's still in the car and could be heard, seen etc. in the Midlands.

Thanks

John

What a great event you've managed to organise.

Probably one of the best I can remember since joining MRC in 2003.

What a shame I don't own a rotary anymore, even if I did I will be on holiday that week otherwise I'd borrow one  :great:.

I'm sure there will be a comprehensive report with photos so those who don't go can drool........................

Re the pressure, the car has low pressure warning so lowering the pressure is an issue.

Hi Clive

Haven't spoken for a while, I trust all is well with you and Lisa.

Will give you a call to catch up, the time seems to fly by these days.

I did increase the wall size on the rears a few months ago but some knowledgeable guy in a tyre place said I shouldn't mess with the original spec.

General Technical / tyres

Not rotary related just a general question regarding tyre sizes.

In order to try and soften the ride on my car [getting old and like a bit more comfort] I'm thinking of replacing my front tyres which need doing anyway.

They are currently 235. 35. 19 and I'm thinking of changing to 235. 45. 19

Would this make ant difference to the ride and are there any reasons that I shouldn't

I've looked up the manufacturers original spec and it's 225. 40. 19 so it's changed during it's life anyway.

As its a rotary forum I'll whisper this bit BMW E46 M3 - You probably know I've owned three rotaries so I'm allowed :icon_thumleft:

If you don't agree with the people who voted out - don't blame anyone but the remain camp politicians.

Both sides had weeks to put their case and if the remain camp couldn't provide enough logic to convince the general public
remaining in was in the best interest of the UK then this is what happens.

All we had was propaganda from known liars anyway.

I think the whole process just confirmed how totally out of touch Westminster is.

If nothing else they won't underestimate the power of the people or take it for granted any time soon.

I think the instances of things going up already are more down to our countries politicians, on all sides, falling apart.

I don't have any time for any of them but we need someone to grasp the situation, stand up and say OK this is it lets sort it out.

Trouble is I can't see anyone out there capable.

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Rebuild DVD set
March 14, 2016, 09:59:19 AM
Having a sort out I came across the three DVD rebuild set [the ausi one] I used when doing a DIY rebuild.

I can't see me using them again and thought I'd offer them free on the site.

They're not boxed and were given to me so I'm not looking to sell them, just send them to a good home.

I'm not sure how many ppl are going to be interested so I thought I'd let this run until Fri night and if more than one person wants them I'll do a random draw.

If it UK I don't mind the cost of a stamp but overseas could have a postage cost.

I always understood they have 14 days to notify you if they are going to do anything

Google it to see if that's right
