Wheels & Tyres, Suspension & Brakes / OMP brake pads
February 15, 2007, 05:53:11 PM
Hi guys,

Has anyone tried OMP brake pads on their FD?

I would be using them mainly for the road plus the odd track day (if I can make my exhaust quiet enough....)

Found these on ebay for £28 including postage.......

Any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks.

Adrian,

Can you clarify the above comments please?

Are you saying WGT deliberately misled you? - that they recommended the T04R turbo then supplied and fitted a different (inferior?) one?

I find it hard to believe that Pip would stitch you up.

Thanks for the impassioned plea Iain!

I have an appointment with Pip next week so fingers crossed he will suss it out.  I will post the solution if we do get to the bottom of it, provided Pip doesn\'t mind me giving away any of his secrets.

I know Pip has been talking to one or two fellow experts, but you never know, there may be someone reading these posts with experience of this problem who Pip doesn\'t know, so thought it was worth posting the question.  Anyway like Iain says it may help someone out in future.

Jurgen - you can\'t sell it after having all that done surely?  If it\'s finished by next Friday I\'ll take it for a quick "road test" for you if you like!

There was a white twin in there, was it in to have the damage to the near side done??

Only joking!  That is one hell of a mean looking car mate.  I was admiring it while I was waiting around.  What was Pip doing to it?  He said it was a dear job!

I\'m hoping to go back next week to get my problem sorted, we have some ideas now thanks to Pip and Carl.

Plenty of viewings on this thread but no answers............deafening silence!

Nobody got any ideas?

I knew if Pip was scratching his head it wasn\'t going to be a simple one but thought some of the rx-gurus   :god among you might have an inkling.....even if it\'s just where to start looking and what to eliminate.

Any suggestions much appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi,

Took my twin turbo to Pip at WGT today to have the apexi power fc mapped.  It previously had a Redom ECU fitted which was running fine.  Unfortunately when Pip tried to set it up it was detonating badly.  At first we thought it was down to the plugs and leads which were well and truly knackered, but replacing them made no difference.  To cut a long story short, Pip replaced the power fc, coil pack and ignitor (amplifier) but none of that made any difference either.
In the end we ran out of time and had to put the original ECU back.

Pip is going to get his thinking cap on and see what he can come up with, his initial ideas of what to check next are the wiring loom from the ECU and the crank sensors.

Unfortunately Pip says he has only seen this particular scenario once before and it was never really resolved, as the guy didn\'t want to invest any more cash in further testing and diagnosis.

I hope this isn\'t going to get expensive!

Anyone got any ideas I can throw at Pip?

By the way the only mods I have are de-catted Blitz exhaust & street port, and have done 10K on rebuild.

Cheers.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I will leave it to Pip - don\'t want to risk running lean.

That is if he ever replies to my email....

I initialised the Power FC back to its default settings, this time it seemed to be going ok, it was idling at about 1400 rpm for 3 minutes then it went up to 2500 and stayed there again.

Forgot to mention that I have 850cc injectors, could that make the difference?

I think I\'ll take it to Pip at WGT to get everything mapped properly.

Thanks for the replies anyway guys.

I installed my new Apexi Power FC and commander today.  When I ran through the initial setup procedure of letting it idle for 10 mins, turning on the rear heater then the air con etc., the car was running really rough all the way through and idling at about 2.5K rpm and no lower, it never really settled down.
Is this because the air/fuel mixture is way out or what?
I do have some minor mods, like de-catted blitz exhaust, mild port and blitz induction kit.
Any ideas please?

Incidentally out of interest the rpm on the power commander was showing about 600 - 1000 less than the one on the dash, is the dash one normally so far out?
Thanks.

General Technical / Aftermarket traction control system?
November 29, 2005, 08:36:59 PM
I actually own the car that Racelogic developed the system on and it is still fitted.

The car is still going strong, so no long term worries.

In my opinion, the system is great.  I enjoy spinning the wheels and sliding the back end around as much as anyone.  At the end of the day you can always turn the system off!  I don\'t really use it in the dry, I agree that being able to control the car with your right foot is a challenge and very satisfying to master.

However, that said, when you are pulling onto a busy main road at rush hour in the wet, you can switch the system on and give it full throttle and it will give you the fastest (and safest?) possible launch.

I would say go for it and have the best of both worlds.

Anything Engine/Performance/Tuning related / de-cat

Mine has no cat and a stupidly-loud-as-standard :evillaugh Blitz NUR Spec exhaust.

It does get through the MOT, although the last couple of years I\'ve had to temporarily whack the idle speed up and fiddle with the little air control screw thing under the throttle elbow thing (technical terms there) to get the emissions down enough - not forgetting to return them to their starting positions of course.

My cat was "de-installed" with a broom handle, thus saving £s !

Anyone think there is a problem with doing that, other than emissions??

Anything Engine/Performance/Tuning related / MOT help!!
November 26, 2003, 01:22:41 PM
I think you were lucky BenF, to the best of my knowledge, all cars are subject to an emissions test of some sort.  If your car was first used on or after 1/8/92 it must undergo an advanced emission test, if it is older than that it must meet certain CO and HC emission limits (dependant on age).

My \'92 twin turbo falls into the latter category and I have had a nightmare this last two years getting it through the MOT.  If I were you I\'d get your car tested there every year!

To clear up another point, I don\'t think cars after \'92 HAVE to have a CAT, even if it had one fitted at manufacture, as there is no specific requirement for this, it just makes it unlikely that the car will pass the more advanced so-called \'CAT\' test (though not impossible I imagine if you know how to tune things specifically for the test).

Not that this is any help to Martin, unless he can get MOT\'d at the same place as BenF!

Good luck.
