Pull up the boot carpet... remove the pump! :)

It\'s quite an easy job compared to other cars, at least you can do it without fishing round in the tank up to your elbows in optimax :D

for the pump:

0) put out ciggys, stop welding etc...

1) de-pressurise the fuel system (remove the green relay in the fuse box next to the battery and run the engine until it stalls)

2) disconnect the battery, unscrew the petrol filler cap a bit to relieve the pressure in the tank.

3) remove the cover screws under the boot carpet (cross head screws)

4) disconnect the earth (7mm socket) and fuel pump plug under the cover and pull it back out the way

5) disconnect the two fuel pipes (the ones that come straight out the top of the fuel pump cover at 90 degrees). Fuel will piss out a bit so get ready with a rag. Block them up to stop any more fuel coming out.

6) unbolt the two, white plastic, one way valves (2x 10mm bolts), move them out the way.

7) undo all the cross head screws around the fuel pump cover.

8) lift out the entire fuel pump assembly complete with fuel level float. (it\'s a little awkward, mind you don\'t bend the wire the float is attached to).

9) examine fuel pump. Rub chin.

Re-assemble in reverse in true haynes manual style.

I wish I\'d taken some photos now... my instructions are a bit cack with no pictures for reference :(

The standard pump is a denso model. I\'ll make a note of the serial number when I get home.
