Title: new clutch required?
Post by: the lemster on October 12, 2004, 05:52:40 PM
I have a 93 3rd gen

one problems that I have noticed developing recently seems to be a clutch problem.

with the car in neutral there is a gravely sound from the \'engine bay\' which reduces almost completely when the clutch is pressed.

it sounds like a clutch plate type noise metal on metal but not awful noise...  there is no slip from the clutch at the moment it pulls in all 5 gears

In gear the noise is there till about 3k rpm but only somtimes, if I am quite gentle with the \'juice boot\' it is not so bad and I only notice it in the lower gears...

and a couple of times the clutch has kind of stuck when i have pressed down to slow to a stop while in slow traffic and then when I lift my foot the clutch bites straight away and not 1/3 of the way up as it usualy does.

any ideas

BTW  it is still running a bit lumpy, have changed oil  tried to get plugs out to check ( only manged one  they are a bit tricky arent they?  and then the weather turned for the worse)

i am having problems with what i think is my clutch.   Do you find it difficult to get into first and reverse when the car newly starts?

had the same problem with mine.

my throw out bearings on the box had gone so had to put in a good secondhand one rather than recondition which i think is even more expensive!!  also the clutch was badly worn in mine which i think was contribtuing as well. all resolved for a small fortune :D
