Title: Keep splitting intercooler pipes?
Post by: Welsh Dan on October 11, 2004, 11:31:38 PM
I managed to split the pipe going to the lower part of the intercooler last week. I managed to get hold of a replacement pipe, which has now split in less than 10 miles of driving. The first one split vertically, and was one of the older three piece rubber style pipes, and the new one was a one piece plastic pipe which has split around one of the rings.
It\'s running the base map on a powerfc, so its not running mega boost, but is there anything that would have caused two pipes to have split, or is it just bad luck?

I would guess the age of these pipes are more than a couple of years old.

It might be worth looking at getting a hard pipe kit from HKS of someone.

might be worth checking your engine mounts if it has recently been out,  too much engine movement could cause splitting............... just a thought:confused:

Nope, the engine hasn\'t been out, so its unlikely to be that. However, someone suggested that the intercooler could be blocked. However, if that was the case, surely I wouldn\'t be able to get the correct boost readings of the inlet manifold. Its reading the correct boost, both on the commander and on the separate boost gauge. If the intercooler was blocked, surely it would would under-read or show a vacuum?

i agree, you would see pressure drop on the engine side if it was blocked,  may be just bad luck then with two dodgy hoses.
