Title: newby-with big single fd3s-with pix
Post by: bigsingle on October 08, 2004, 05:12:10 PM
hi guys
i\'ve decided to join the forum sicne i\'ve jsut bought a rex december 1993 equipped with a trust t78-heavily modified and has all the usual stuff
hks intercooler
triple fuel pump set up
its red and has a full kit and white advans

i rushed into it basiaclly
i was sown the vehicle by my agent and bought it on insticnt
will be rolling roaded in the next few days

i\'m not  sure if i bought it expensive seems cheap but unsure of the value of theese vehicles-originally was ad\\fter a supra with a t88 but saw this and jumped in
i havent had a rex before but seen a few but never a single and they sound loud , very

mechanically the car is good and runs well
holds boost all the way to redline
engine been rebuilt 400kms ago
bridgeported and has bene tuned by panspeed of japan
anyone heard of them? are they good
i\'m totally new to rotary and i think i have jumped in a bit too far at the deep end

well i\'ve paid for the vehicle now so if i sell it in the uk not worried as long as i get back what i paid for it.

anway can you guys tell me what to expect antd what the vehicles are like
sorry if i\'m a bit vague but i have no idea about them
i\'ve tuned other vehicles before and have some knowledeg of rotary but to be honest never thought twice about buying 1

my agent given me the spec etc and says it drives very well
only problem is that he says its spinning rear wheels even in 4th gear althought is has a kaaz 3way lsd
is this usual?

will need semi slick wheels

to be honest i think i\'ve made a mistake but can only make a decision once i have in in the uk
on a test drive on the c1 shinji my agent has recorded 296kmh in 5th at 7100 rpm and shinji  says it redlines
 at 8000rpm-

i cannot confirm but is reputed to be running in the region of 580ps
around 575bhp  but usually when someone estimates 500 the vehicles really around 340 or so
well after the rolling road i\'ll find this out

what are these cars like on the quarters?
i have experience with gtr skylines and my 600bhp 33 was posting mid 11\'s

Whats the quickest rex in the country running and making power wise? i suppose its a single turbine?
what are the 0-60mph times like and also 0-100mph

due to the sheer amount of traction problems they cant be that quick well once tyres are warmed up then should be good

welcome to the rotary world!

QuoteWhats the quickest rex in the country running and making power wise? i suppose its a single turbine?

well there are 3 (proven) sub 11 second rx7s in the UK currently:
Ross @ Dragon has a bridgeported T88 turbo\'d 3rd Gen (FD)

Geff @ RE-Works has a (20B Boy will correct me on this if I\'m wrong) ported (street ported I believe) single turbo FD

Tim @ RX Motors has a Ported GT35/40 turbo\'d Gen 1 (1983)

As to power the only one I can quote is Tim\'s Gen 1 which is pushing 330+ atw (on an extremely lightweight 1983 shell!!!)

sounds like your car could pull sub 11 second runs if what you have been told is correct. BTW PanSpeed are a v well respected company!

cheers

Brian has a t51r big single aswell, also there are numerous others with to4 type set-ups.

Gurj has a t78 and currently getting new injectors and getting it set-up

Garry has a big single turbo in the build ready for next year.

I\'m sure someone made a 10 sec pass not so long ago from our club.... i cant seem to find the table of 1/4 mile times for eveyone in our club, has it been removed??

The only reason you dont see loads of us at totb event (lets be honest, that seems to be the event that counts nowadays according to the press  ), is that most guys on here didnt have their cars ready in time...watch out next year because theres gonna be a shock to the skyline/supra boys.

I can tell you now, as soon as you drive it, you will love it.

They are a light car....and even my twin set-up has embarressed a lot more newer expensive powerful cars.
So power to weight is emmense.
They only weigh 1250kg\'s......thats almost as light as stuff like teg-r\'s, civic-r\'s etc etc, but with a shit load more power.

The handling is also above nearly all the other japanese stuff out there, and even brakes in standard form made the rx7 the fastest stopping production car available in the 90\'s.

So all in all, i can see you being converted once you drive this car.

Welcome mate..... i cant really see you leaving :wave

Dan!!

thanks guys
i\'m happy to be welcome and also thanks guys for the information/help yo have give.
I\'m not sure how to post the pictures but i can send them to anyone if their willing to put them up?
only pictures i have at the moment are the auctiosn ones which i saw and made me bid
well gathering from what you guys tell me i\'m actually not dreading it for the first time
i\'m a bit excited lol about the rex now that i\'ve been re assured.

The only other thing about the rex was that rwd and big power throught them wheels cud be a bit of a handful and will be especially round roundavbouts and in the wet. i\'m really only experienced well with 4wd and front wheel drive, although a lot of my friends were saying your crazy goin for a 500+bhp supra

the thing about me is that also i fidn you\'ll agree most people crash and get stuck while showing off etc infront of so and so and trying to show these poxy kids in their kitted corsas with lol hks and nos stickers on the side how quick their car is.

should be real fun then, i\'ve always been told that a rex is great fun to drive and they have good road holding.

am i right saying that a rex pushing over 300bhp throught the rear wheel will if not smoke give a 500ish bhp sky gtr a good run for its money?

i\'ve never came across a rex in a race before

as for the sub 11-sec quarters-fingers crossed but everyone tells and exxagerates the power figures when it coems to cars-eg-maybe the previous owner of my rex but yep we\'ll see once she\'s been dyno\'d

to be honest i\'d estimate around 460bhp once the cars here and in the uk running on 97/98 ron
i can confrim that the vehilce has been mapped for 106 ron race gas in japan and also this is the quckest rx7 my agent has driven but once again its not soemthign i havent heard before

i did see a white rex on stertegarage.com
its the prject car-really fond of that and have pm\'d the guy to ask if he\'ll seel that but i doubt it and if he\'d do a swap px but  i\'ve reconsidere dit and it was a bit of a daft suggestion.

I was going to ask about totb3-where are all the big powered rx\'s but now i know.
hope i\'m part of the team of us guys next year who will show the supra and skyline guys aswell

the rx7 ia now sold
i got a phone call a 2am from my agent and a rpivate buyer has offered a singificantly higher price than what we bought the vehicle for
well he was offered 2.2million jpy and i agreed to sell
no way was it worth more

she made 519.4 ps at the fylwheel and 309/lbs torque
good news for me
bad news for the members i
