Title: Alarm fitting, help please?????
Post by: Donato on October 07, 2004, 09:18:45 AM
Good morning,

The guy who is fitting my alarm is having difficulty finding the scymantics (spelling?) for the car. He reckons its slightly different for an import than for a uk model.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

The alarm to be fitted is a Toad Ai606.

Cheers

Hi Adam,

How\'s the car coming along?

Right..

He hasn\'t actually started, he said he was trying to get the scymantics first before he booked me in to fit it. He said he had the uk fd but not an import, is it any different for alarm fitting?

Cheers

well mate.... not sure why he needs one to be honest, central locking is easy as he will have to fit a new motor on the drivers side anyway, then the rest will be ignition, which can be done with a volt meter easily......  I fitted a clifford G5 myself along with window closure and remote start, with only a volt meter :) so i can\'t see hwat he is fussing over.  Ihave had two alarms fitted to FD\'s in the past and they have never requested diagrams or had any problems....

Yeah, the car is coming along, engine is now up and running and sounds sweet....   just ordered the body kit, so with a bit of luck it might be on the road in the new year  :)

Hows your engine running?

Glad to hear it mate. Well done.

My engine is now run in and almost mapped, pip couldn\'t finish the mapping as the stock boost controller couldn\'t handle the boost and it went to 1.1 bar. Once the boost controller arrives i will take it back and get it finished. At the moment i can\'t take it over 6500revs but its fast, a lot faster and more powerfull than before! I ended up getting Pip to do the rebuild and porting and i did the rest myself, i chickened out of the rebuild :o

All in all im very happy with it. Look forward to seeing yours when its done, i should have my respray and interior done for the start of next year..

The motor for the passenger side? Do i need to get a drivers side one or is there a specific motor an where can i get it from mate?

I have one motor on the drivers side mate.....  it\'s like and actuator rod if you get what i mean....  usually the alarm fitter will supply and fit it, they are about £35 quid, but they can be a pain to set up!.  Mine already had one so i was lucky :)  I would say if the bloke ain\'t sure on what he\'s doing then don\'t get him to fit it.....  it is a simple task for a good alarm installer.

I\'m going to be installing the Ai606 to my car next week but I am confused as to why you need this motor in the drivers side? Is there no central locking button inside the car?

I fitted the said alarm to my current car about 4 months ago without a problem. The door lock button inside the car (which all central locking cars should have) sumply pulled it out, stuck the wires from the Ai606 to the desired wires and job done.

Can anyone explain why I\'ll be needing this extra motor? If it isn\'t there to start with how does the current central locking work?

There\'s no button in the car that locks/unlocks both doors mate....  You can test your car by trying to lock and unlock the car on the passenger side, you may find that it does not lock both doors....unlike if you did it on the drivers side....   I have an additional motor type thing on my drivers door.... It\'s linked to the wires of the alarm, and is a push pull type thing.  It has a rod on the end that activates the drivers lock....  if you get what i mean :)
