Title: Intercooler upgrade help!!
Post by: fc3sPAT on October 06, 2004, 01:16:59 AM
hi guys, some time back i had a thread on installing an evo6 intercooler, well now i have a HKS one, 600x300x65 in size, looking for some help and info on how and where would be the best and easiest place to fit it on my FC?? i only have the core, no pipes, so need to fabricate them, any ideas guys?

i have been suggested to move the radiator slightly backwards, and put the IC where the rad would have been, this seems to be the easiest and shortest pipe distance option, and space wise would be the easiest to play around with,

any other ideas? and would fitting the IC in this way affect the cooling of the rad much or not much change? anyone has done this or seen something similar, or any suggestions?

Cheers

Patrick,

That was taken with the fan and fan cowling removed! I\'m sure I have others from my rebuild somewhere, if you need more?

The biggest question is if you have enough space either side of the core to fabricate good sized end tanks.

If you do then moving the rad back a little and fitting the HKS in front would be the best solution.

As for temps, I dont think you will see much difference, as the HKS cores seem to allow a good amount of air through them.

i\'ve had a look, there is just about enough space under the bonnet latch and water tank, but it means a bit of cutting of the under tray to route the pipes, what do you think of this?

the core already has end tanks on it, so thats not a problem, just worried about temperatures if it is right in front of the rad, as the IC is quite big, and would i be able to put the rad upright rather then slanted? as am scared it might hit the fan at the bottom if i just move it back in the same angle,

sean, anymore pictures would be great, cheers mate, as it is so hard just explaining in text,

fish, thanks for trying to help! top guys.........:)

any ideas?

seems that it will only fit under the water tank, and cutting away a bit of the undertray, then routing the pipes back up, and using the rest of the undertray to protect it,

o and any ideas as to the cost of repairing a IC leak, not sure if it is leaking at the bit just under the K, just above the bottom of the core,

thanks,

Patrick
