Title: Front number plate holder
Post by: Matt.Wild on October 05, 2004, 06:40:36 PM
When I collect the car i\'m looking to move where the standard plate setting is.

I want to move it across to the left of the air intake section (when facing the car head on) with a jap sized plate maybe using the standard brackets (or making some up) to hold it in place, rather like an Evo\'s placing of the plate.

Is this legal (surely it must be if the Evo has it there!) and has anyone else done this?  If its bad for the car in some way, whats the reasoning? :)

I\'m sure it\'s legal, Alfa\'s do it too. I\'m about to take the Jap plastic holder off the front of mine to put a motorbike-sized sticker as a front number plate, let me know if you want the plastic holder.

It\'s kind of legal - Alfa had special dispensation from the DVLA as their grille design wouldn\'t allow it in the normal place but most other cars are supposed to have a plate in the middle for some reason... Doesn\'t worry me tho, I haven\'t been pulled for my tiny plate yet (tempting fate or what ;))

Cheers,
Alex

Make sure you don\'t obscure the oil cooler intake on the left Matt, I\'m pretty sure it\'s legal otherwise. Might look a bit odd :)

Can anyone confirm the size of an Evo/Alfa plate?

What an absolute pain !!!

Removed the numberplate Saturday to find that the holder is riveted on in 5 places, slight overkill by Mazda there methinks. Therefore, to replace with the sticker I\'d have to drill out all 5 rivets, then fill the holes.

Maybe I\'ll drill it off at Xmas, but you won\'t be getting the numberplate holder before then Matt, sorry matey !!

I have one plate holder that is to UK standard size and one that holds the square/Evo style plate. Are either of these going to help you out on your quest to be barely legal:confused:
