The time has come to upgrade my Rotechniks intercooler for something far more suitable for track work.
Has anyone on the forum used an Apexi Gt spec intercooler on track with stock twins and uprated alloy rad?Any info much appreciated on inlet and water temps with this setup during hard track use.
I\'m either going for the Apexi Gt spec kit if I can get some good feedback or go with the more expensive option of a racing V-mount setup from Japan.
BTW - does anyone in the UK carry the Apexi Gt spec kit in stock?a price would be great.
Thanks
James
dont know about the Apexi, but the Knightsport V is approx £2200
landed.
OK, Ant (db2boy) along with many others have the Apexi front mount fixed to the stock twins, and have shown good results with it.
As for the v-mount kits, there are a couple being sorted out in the UK. And should be coming in a lot less than 2k. But it depends on how quickly you want to get it done.

Bit of a suck it and see job James I think, no ones really tracked either setup much in the UK I dont think...
The Apexi kits are about £1200, they come with the power intake kit too though, the stock intercooler verison of which retails for a couple of hundred on its own. Think the single is turbo kit is about a grand.
Hi,
Hopefully, in the not too distant future (next month or so), I\'m going to be trialling a UK developed and built v-mount kit. I will post pics and power (once fuelling is installed) and info on the quality once it\'s installed... My understanding is that the kit will be very competitive on price (I\'m not on commision, just a guinea pig!).
I\'ll try to get the full spec to post, off the top of my head it\'s a full ally set-up - rad and i/c are 6cm deep.
Iain
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I\'m really loathe to go front mount as I\'ve never liked the idea of covering up the radiator.I currently have a WGT alloy racing rad which seems to cope fine during hard track use and I\'ve never had any problems with the car getting too hot.
Inlet temps are a totally different story though, the Rotechniks unit I had was showing skyhigh temps via the commander, after 6 laps following a well driven Exige I nearly passed out when I looked at the inlet temps. No wonder the car felt slow.
V-mount setup sounds like the best way forward, please post up some figures Iain when you get yours setup,by the way, were you the guy at Donny I chatted too a while back who had a mate with a black Celica GT4??
Regards
James
I\'d be intreseted to know the figures on the newly UK developed V mount setup, as due to time constraints I plumped for the Apexi GT spec intercooler. Water temp doesn\'t go above 89oC even in the Trax jam which was damn hot! Once mapped I\'ll be out on track to I\'ll see what the reading is then!
What about water injection system?
Won\'t that be easier and cheaper way to reduce inlet temps. I don\'t have any temps issue in paticular on my car as i have Trust I C in stock position and the rad is still got the Air con mesh in front but the water temps do stay below 83 even after hard drive.
Im hoping that after the water injection system installed tonight (Thanks Jay) the inlet temps will be good enough to play with higher boost.
I will be interested in the V mount too only if that don\'t need removing bits to install. I like the radiator where it is, keeps the water temps nice and cool.
Cheers

Yeah, that was me! Hopefully I\'ll get a chance to get my FD up there in the not too distant future, it\'s an awesome track.
I\'ll post details of the install when it happens.

Cool,thought that was you Iain!
Will hang on for a while before I buy to find out some figures from your setup as I have\'nt got another trackday planned for a while yet.

Yes water injection is a very good way to control inlet temps.
The only problem is being where to mount a good sized water tank.

In the pitlane - I was just using the screenwash reservoir. By my reconning it is big enough the contents will safely outlast the tyres on a track day :) Just have to hope no one tries to take a sly drink out of one of the 5l water containers sitting in the pitlane, not sure what effect 50% methanol will have on humans but the odds are it wont be good :D

:cool :cool :cool :cool :cool
The only problem with having one of those UK cars is that the screen wash bottle is in the bloody boot!!!! :(:(:(
