I am due to take delivery of my Rx in the next week or so and am obviously getting a bit giddy! I have owned a VX220 in the past which was pretty quick, not top end but plenty of acceleration, similiar to Elise 6 secs 0.60.
I was wondering how an Rx might feel. I have never driven one prior to me buying this one from New Era. Mad maybe but I am defo looking forward to that first blast. 2.6 twin I know is going to be rapid but wondered if some people might enlighten me with their experiences of their first drives!!!!
;)
Matt
not that i have drive a FD , but the FC turbo II
first experience ...
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG , cant remove smile from face .. OMG OMG OMG crickey it quick .. look how it pulls in 3rd gear ... OOOOOOMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGG ... stop car , get out , stop to calm my self
get back in
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG you can wheel spin for fun , hang on its now side ways ... OH SHT this will be expensive .. back in a straight line .. OMG OMG OMG
ROUNDABOUT .. ekkk sideways again .. How much fun ...
and thats pretty much what its like :)
With the weather being wet take it easy until you feel you are capable of handling the rx, quite a few people on here have been alittle heavy footed in the wet and ended up with a broken rx!!!!
Cough - Scoobi Si :o
But seriously though just be careful until you get a feel for the acceleration and handling, as far the Elise goes i had a race with a chap from the gym who has one, and around the bends he was right behind me, hit the straight and he dissappeared and wsa somewhat amazed as to where i had gone!!!
But then again my rx is a single turbo setup, is yours twin turbo?? if so then you must watch the revs when accelerating as the first turbo bites at 3000rpms and the second at 5000rpms so watch for the bite.:)
Gurj
Ps - next midlands meet will be on the 24th october 2004, will post in the meetings section closer to the date.:cool
First drive       :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Fun fun fun, very fast, but as Gurj says, be very carefull, in the wet/damp conditions the back wheels like to join the front, take it slow to begin with and learn how to drive her, any idiot can drive fast, the important thing is being able to do it well.
best to learn slowly than to learn the hard way mate..
Its a different driving experience i have had from any other car.
Its fecking great! ;)
Good luck matey
Yeah it is a standard twin apart from induction kit dump valve and cat back box.
Really can\'t wait to get me hands on it and have a play. I wrote off me VX220 (avoiding a dog Hmph cough) and caused £5000 worth of repairs to it, so I know I\'m good at losing RWD motors!
Been a bit concerned about the Mazdaspeed front bumper. Apparently 4" ground clearance and only 5" at it\'s highest point. I knew it looked low on the photos I have but didn\'t realise it was quite that low! Not many of them about over here so I don\'t want to rip it off either on the first speed bump I come too!
:cool
Will definately come along to a Midlands meet. I\'ve seen that Peccy is Sheff based and I know you are Derby way, so there are a few of us about now!

That yours in your avatar? Looks nice.
Not a MazdaSpeed nose though :)
I got my rx7 about 2-3 months ago and still have the smile on my face. My first drive was in a faster one than min at the min and all i could do was say how much do you want for mine ! lol
Amazing to drive, but two watch words (which i seem to forget still  ) is not to get angry in it, they are too quick for that and will just bite you in the arse. Plus take your time in the wet, even in a straight line they will spin up in the wet as standard.
Just make sure it hasn\'t got cheap rubber on it and enjoy every minute of the dry weather :D
Shaun
Yeah I want it now!!!!
20B, yeah sorry your right it\'s a Knight sports kit.
Just checked me e-mail from Miguel doh!
I know going slightly off topic but do people recommend replacing tyres when they import (obviously for those that have). The tyres have good tread and I can see they are Good Year from some pics (not sure which model) but I have heard that Jap rubber is not very good in English weather. i.e wet all the time!
Yeah definately worth replacing the tyres, even a good make/model from japan will be a harder compound so not really suited to our roads.
I drove around for a few months with jap rubber, and once i changed them to a set of brit Goodyear Eagle F1\'s difference was phenomenal, can give it more accerelation out of bends without back breaking traction, and when it does its more progressive and controllable. With the jap rubber I found it a bit heart in mouth the few times when the back started sliding, seemed to just go.
The wet perfomance is much improved too, feel a lot more confident on a wet road since changing the tyres, I still take it steady though after stories of woe :)
Bumper clearance, hee hee
My front bumper is about 4 inches from the tarmac, speed bumps should be approached with caution!
The bottom of my radiatior is 5 inches from the ground and my extra anti roll bars are also about 4inches from the road. All in all bumpy roads are not my friend.
Basic rules
avoid anything unless its flat! ;)
yours is a 2.6 ?
You should get a 1.3 put in it, cheaper tax ! :rollin
Japanese tyres are much chop from what I have experienced. Unless you spend the bucks and get good stuff.
Something about the compound and how it behaves in cold weather. Seems everytime that someone bends a car here where tyres could be blamed, it\'s when it\'s cold. Summer time, not much happens.
Crazy, because it gets plenty cold here, but plenty hot too.
Also could be caused by the humidity, which rips rubber apart in pretty short order.
BTW, current count of cars bent or killed by locals folks stands at a mint condition 20B Cosmo, a slightly bent RX8, BMW M3 and numerous runabouts that aren\'t worth mentioning in such illustrious company. All done in winter here.
Change the rubber. It\'s not that expensive compared to the repair bill. ;)
P.S. I still remind the guy who killed the Cosmo what a ^%*%&(&)* he is every now and then...

Yea cool bro, thought it were for me:)
Will post next meet in the next few weeks.
Gurj:wave
mines only 2" off the front bumper so it catches everywhere if going at speed even on normal roads without bumps but if u go diaganol across them then its fine
the real problem is backing it up the drive...2 of my cars catch on it cos its a hill btm drive:( iv noticed 2 new craks on the bumper since it got taxd that wernt there b4 so best thing is pump up ur tyre pressure so u got more clearance lol:cool
Yep its one problem with these cars, i have to reverse at a diagonal angle to get the car onto the drive!!!!
Which is why the cars always parked at an angle on the drive!!!:(
STICK eagle F1\'s on straight away IMO i had a set in my bedroom i put off sticking on as i was guna kill the rice rubber at silverstone accept it didnt quite get to that stage

soooooo not worth waiting!!!!
Also get a track or air strip day lined up soooo cunning to learn limits in safety
All IMO having learnt the hard way but like the RX8 should come with a learning track day as standard IMO....

Si (jokes about being cr4p behind wheel loose appeal when yer heading wrong way to sumin solid......)
G dawwg havnt u eva been pulld for that front num plate b4??
Not yet , touches wood!!!!
I think they leave me alone as the plates clearly visible and easily readable too:)
Car looks sweet Gurj. I like those headlight conversions. :cool
Deffo change the japanese rubber.
I had some japanese rubber on my NA MR2 a few years back.
Never heard of the make of tyre, but went cheap on myself and kept putting it off.
Two weeks later, in torrential rain around October time on a country road the car just pendulums out on a slight corner at about 50mph. Even when I corrected it, the car settled centre for only a moment, then swung out again.
I finally slid to a rest with a tree trunk inches off the front, and another a metre from the rear...I had slid between the two trees!
£4,000 later - and some new Goodyear F1\'s, car was fine. When I later upgraded to a MR2 Turbo pushing out 300bhp - F1\'s still kept it planted in the wet.
Amusingly low resolution pictures from my camera phone (it was three years ago!)
Rowly
Here\'s another one :)
Think you had your lottery win luck that day!!!
Will bear your story in mind when I take delivery!!!!
