Post by: Dan Norton on October 05, 2004, 07:52:33 AM
Hi all,

Has anyone removed the mirrors off thier fd3 before?

Is there anything to look for specifically?

I\'m gonna fit my new re-amemiya mirrors today.

I assume its just take the door cards off job yea?

Cheers,

Dan!!

Rotate the mirrors, there are two screws you need to undo those.

Didn\'t take mine all the way off so not sure what to do next.

There are two screws holding the mirrors to the swivel plate (one of these screws goes all the way through into the door) and there is one other screw holding the swivel plate to the door. In order to be able to take the mirrors off, you\'ll have to completely remove the door cards and the speaker capsule so you can disconnect the elecy mirror wiring harness clip. I\'d suggest undoing the clip before undoing the mirror screws otherwise you\'ll have the mirror dangling around while you\'re trying to take the door cards off.

The door cards aren\'t too difficult to remove, just remember to ping off the plastic covers at the front and rear of the door by the window. Remove all the screws (4screws on the drivers side and 5 screws on the passenger side *from memory*) and lift up and slightly out to remove.

Also I think you will need to drill some holes in order to fit the RE-A mirrors, but I\'m sure it will be obvious from simply looking at your new mirrors.

Good luck with it all,

Paul:)

Haha....cheers paul, i\'m laughing because i read your post just after i finnished putting the new mirrors on  :D

But yea, basically your description is spot on mate, and people should follow pauls description in the future.

So, the job took about 1 and half hours.....thats including dropping screws down the downcard after they were back in place

I\'ll post some pics .

Are the mirrors supposed to wobble a little and if not how do I tighten them?

Mine wobbled, turns out there was only one bolt holding them on.  If there are two make sure they are tight.

Dan just to bring this thread back to the top. I have finally got round to fitting my RE:A mirrors but can\'t see how I can connect them up.
Door cards are off, mirrors are off but the electrical connection are totally different. The new mirrors have just got crimps on the end where as the old mirrors have plastic moulded quick connect plug in type thingy. (you know what im banging on about.
Please don\'t tell me I need to cut the splice together cos I ain\'t doing that! looks like its a trip to the local car audio shop for them to do it.

AH!!!....i havnt actually connected mine up steve :o ....i faced the same problem....i thought i would leave them as they were for the time being as i was annoyed at losing screws etc when taking the door cards off ( you know what its like getting frustrated when doing jobs like this  ).
I was going to connect each wire via a bullit connector tho mate, so maybe you will have to cut the plug off the other end??
