Title: Houghton\'s Gold Star.
Post by: Big Stu on October 04, 2004, 10:13:59 PM
Just wanted to direct people into phoning Houghtons again. I got a superb Quote a few weeks ago and i think they have done 1 better this time.

Ok so you have to be 25 or over, and the car has to be 10 yrs old for the classic car policing.

BUT:

I got a quote on a 94 RX7 for £358, now im 26 with 6 yrs no claims which i guess is about average.

Today i phoned them to tak about mods. Since im looking at a car with some mods. So i ran through a list of bodykits, wheel, Spoiler, Exhaust,ECU, Induction Kits. Blah, Blah. I told them everything. They took the details to their underwriter and then called me back to quote:

£395.18 Fecking Brilliant Eh??

Also they have decided that for an extra £200 they will put my 24 yr old miss\'s on the insurance. So now she is over the moon.

Nice Work Houghtons!

Stu

:) :)

Hi mate,
Thats about what my quote was at first, but they based that on the engine being a 2-3! (thier insistance) when i corrected them and told them my RX7  has a capacity of 2616cc and is a twin turbo Jap import they added on a another £340, Best make sure they are on the the ball with engine size as you dont want to be under-insured, but i would like to know if they have got it right,
Cheers Bob

I had a quote from Houghton too for my 93 R1 with loads of mods including a single turbo, all of the above criteria apply and it had to be garaged at night and was limited to, I think 4 or 5000 miles per year.  I\'m 29 and my quote was 458 quid fully comp!  I did e mail them back asking if they were sure all the details were correct.... and they were!  Makes modifying a car affordable:)

Mark.

Thank you Houghton, I\'ll be taking the policy out once I\'m back on the road.

I\'ve just been quoted by tesco, but they say I need a tracker.  Has anyone here got one fitted?  What are the costs involved with that?

A tracker will set you back about £300 for it with £100 subsciption for about £100 a year or £500-600 for a life time sub with the tracker included...

Yeah I looked at the trackers and decided that my premiums were high enough, without an extra £400 on top.

Gonna go with Aon now, was gonna be Houghtons but Aon said they would match the quote (minus a few pounds) plus unlimited mileage and a much lower xs at £250, rather than £750. Only a Cat 2 needed.  Â£819 all in.  Cheaper than the Fiat 20v Turbo last year!

Both Aon and Houghtons worth a recommendation here.

high 5 houghton\'s :wave

i\'ve been keeping a close eye on this part of the forum, in the hope that i could cut corners on the laborious task of finding the right insurance quote...

i saw houghton recommended by a few forum members recently so tried them first. spoke to a guy called robert jackson - good bloke, very helpful - and got a quote for classic insurance...

300 quid fully comp with 250 excess, limited to 5000 miles:eek:

tempted to end the search right there..
unless anyone reckons i\'ll find cheaper?

I would call Aon for a quote too, as I said before Houghtons were my cheapest quote until Aon matched it, and then knocked a few quid off.  Plus they up\'d the mileage from 7500 to unlimited, and lowered the xs from 750 to 250!

Tell them your a MRC member

cheers for the tip, mate. i\'ll try them tomorrow.

tbh i\'d be happy if they only matched the premium and excess but upped the mileage ;)

just tried aon - they don\'t do 3s, just 7s & 8s. They don\'t do a classic policy either.

thanks for the tip tho.

I\'ll try to find the name of the person I spoke to when I get home.  My quote with Aon is just over £800, but that\'s unlimited mileage, and only cat 2 needed (obviously getting a good cat 1 though), and the small matter of 9 points on my licence!
I\'m well pleased with that, and thank my wife for it being so low, as without her I would need to pay almost £1000 more!!  If you have a partner or wife you can put on the policy (better if they\'re over 30) then the insurers see you as being more responsible and you get a better deal.

Cheers!

They said to me when I called it depends where you are, what you have driven and claims etc.  Where as they may be able in one area to offer insurance for a 24 year old (if you have experience, low risk p/c for example) in some areas you have to be 30 +

They said to me, most of the time you have to be 25 + with experience :)

Well just got off the phone again to houghtons.  They say my age is the problem....27.  I need to be 30.  Thats the only thing going against me.... (full no claims, no point, crash\'s, owned RX\'s for the last 6 years)  I explained how they seem to be insuring other people under 30 but they say they must not be taking out classic car insurance......:(

Never mind, phoned AON and they have quoted really well, so i have gone with them.....CAr passed it\'s first MOT yesterday so hope to register her thiss week, then she\'s on the road at last  :)

Cheers

Maybe the have changed there policy due to demand from FD owners? I have a classic car policy with them and im 26.

Probably got a little scared at the risk that they were taking on.
