Title: Strip out and weight reduction
Post by: Brett on October 04, 2004, 04:25:32 PM
Anybody know how far you can go when stripping out a car?  What will be an MOT issue and what wont?

I may be going down the stripped out route....

well my TII passed MOT with no carpets, no sound deadening, no rear seats, no rear belts. As far as I can tell, interior-wise you can remove a hell of a lot as it doesn\'t affect safety or roadworthyness. I know of a 323 4x4 turbo with perspex rear and side windows which is MOT\'d.... let me know how yours goes as I need to move to phase 2 of weight reduction soon!

Thanks for the info.  I wonder if I could make a perspex rear screen?  That thing weighs a ton....

nearly as much as the Lead (sorry steel) bonnet !!!

I have been contemplating a perspex rear screen, let me know how your research goes.

Will do.  Was thinking of having a day to day set up, and then have a replacement rear screen for track and drag use.

Perspex rear window should be fine, I know of a few Minis (my other automotive passion!) who have passed MOT\'s with perspex rear windows and don\'t see why it\'d be different on the RX...  I\'m not even convinced the rear window is looked at in an MOT, as there is no restriction on tinting etc...

And as for removing stuff, you can get rid af almost everything out of the cab and even the spare wheel as it\'s not a requirement for MOT.  I have seen a Mini with NO interior - just a drivers seat!  go thru an MOT with no problems what so ever.  As long as all the safety and emmission stuff is ok, then there should be no probs as MOT is really just checking road worthyness, the comfort in the cab is up to you!
