Title: lumpy \'93 FD3
Post by: the lemster on September 29, 2004, 01:11:33 PM
anyone,

I have recently purchased a 93 rx7 and it is running quite lumpy.

from tick over all the way through it is kind of noticable.  When cruising at about 3k rpm it kind of jolts abit, as if it is missing...

I was hoping that it was just the fact that it had been on a boat for a while then at the garage where I got it from for a month or three and it is just \'waking up again\'  it had ahd quite a few long runs and still no difference.

the guy I got it from put in rotary specific plugs and changed the oil before I got it, though I am not sure what oil he put in

I have seen a few things on the forum that say about loose plugs or a new fuel filter, or wrong oil/oil change is all that is needed, would you suggest putting it in the garage for this or is it easy enough to do yourself with the right tools ( i know plugs are a be\'yatch )  I am currently using 10W/40 halfords mineral oil

anyone know where I can get hold of a manual....  I know they are a bit like rocking horse guano

Should the garage you got it from not be responsible for sorting it mate..?

Have you redlined it whilst driving??  (Obviously, only after the engine has thoroughly warmed)

There may be carbon deposits that I\'ve heard can make things a bit lumpy, and the only real way to remove them (without arsing around with the engine) is to get the engine nice and hot by giving it a bit of a blat.  Even MAZDA themselves recommend revving the engine highly on an engine once it\'s warmed up to keep the carbon down...

Have you added oil/changed the oil?  The leads are all on securely?  starts first time every time??

havent changed oil myself yet.... might do it this weekend if the weather holds out... will check the leads as well if I get a chance

will try and give it a blat on the way home.... roads ahoud be clear at 6 when I finish... oooh lucky me I hear you cry!!!

dont have broad band yet... need a new pc...

changin oil is easy enough though.. drain it... do you reccomend putting an oiul flush fluid through first?.... then how much goes in to fill.... 4 litres?.....

dont think it is anything serious as oil pressure is high temperature is ok, and it starts first time every time, apart from when I forget to turn the immob off on the alarm and it kinda starts then the T/Timer cuts in and cant start for a further 30 seconds....

all things I am learning in the infancy of my ownership...

speak soon...

Hi there,
If u go onto ebay and go to automotive in the list  then type in RX7 and press search then everything to do with RX7\'s will come up.If u scroll through them all u should come across a manual which is in Cd format which includes every RX7 model available and includes everything from exhausts to brakes etc.I bought one last week for about £3 inc p&p and although i have not looked at it properly it must be worth a try for a few quid.

                                                                      Cheers - gja7.

Might not be relevant but what fuel are you using?  I know when I put Ultimate in mine it was running very lumpy.  Seems to be okay on Optimax though.

Dont know if this is any help but my 92 was running lumpy and i changed the plugs and its now gone. They are not hard to do and well worth it.
