Title: Calling all cars!!
Post by: Top_gear_towers on September 28, 2004, 12:36:53 PM
Dear all,

Can anyone help me?

As some of you know, my modified black MR2 turbo was set fire to two weeks ago - and has been written off.

They are paying up (happily) and I want to buy a late Rx7 for around £10K.

I had three years no claims, am 25 years old and the next car will be garaged - I\'ve been told that my three years will be written off, regardless of the fact some tos*er set fire to it while I slept.

To go back to 0, and try and insure an Rx7 (or anything for that
matter) seems hellish - does anyone have experience of negotiating with new insurance companies to take even just a years no claims for a new policy?

Thanks for any help anyone can give,

Rowly

best bet is probably guna be to get classic insurance on the RX7 which dont need or use NCB & usually kicks ass on a price front although you will need another sh!t heap to drive but can pay for itself in petrol for cr4ppy shopping trips etc & save on door dents in the proper car.....;)

How old does the car have to be to qualify for classic insurance?

Yep go for classic, 10 year plus is the norm so want it to be 15 years old.

I was with Sureterm direct now with houghton - very cheap.

With your age you could try AON and you get a club discount.

Be carful when insuring on classic car insurance, i tryed that and one of the clauses was that i couldnt drive it more than 50 miles a day!!!

I how stupid is that, i didnt find out until a year later after i tryed to insure it again with the same policy.

That means it would of took me a week in traveling time just to get it serviced! VOID insurance is not Good!!!!!

most of them are 25 year old age limit as i recall & as a member of club get the deal with AON & usually based on having a 2nd car, 5k milage limit (or 3k if you want even mor £ off i guess) being garaged & having had some performance car experiance.....
Worked great for me

PS dont recommend crashing as a way to keep miles down thou :rollin
Title: RX7 for sale and insurance
Post by: SouthendRX7 on October 24, 2004, 09:30:10 PM
Towers....... I\'m currently selling my RX7 which has just had a full rebuild and a lot of money spent on it over the last few months. I am open to offers, but am looking for 8k........ pic below.

I looked all over the place for insurance, and the cheapest I got it was through Adrian Flux, but maxpower are doing some sort of drivers course which will knock off 25% off the premium through Flux once passed. I\'m not sure of the details, but check MaxPower\'s website......... I seem to think it costs a couple of hundred quid though!

Its called Max Driver

0208 996 9686

I think only Adrian Flux recognise it for discount at the moment.  Its suppost to save you around 25% so could be more, could be less.  The first person who passed saved himself 33.5%!!  :D

no, im not a chav! :cool

Thanks for all your replies guys.

I took the advice and have bought a small Fiesta to be my main car, and have been quoted by AON around the £600 mark for a \'94 Rex, 5K miles, garaged.

Its a total bargain - as I can store up my no claims on the fiesta, and still drive the Rex at the weekend.

I dont think I\'ll ever again keep my noclaims (if unprotected) on my faster car.

Now I just need to find a RX7 to buy...
