Title: A few performance questions
Post by: Brett on September 27, 2004, 04:28:30 PM
Took the Egi out on the weekend, went as well as it always does :D even managed to have a bit of fun with an Audi TT, anyway I digress.

I\'m still getting an odd flat spot at 3800rpm, is this the secondaries playing up or an earthing fault or is it ECU related? (Still running stock ECU)

Also, are the TII injectors and Fuel pump of a higher rating than the Egi equivilants?  (May still buy Stu\'s pump if its going to make a difference)

I\'m going to try and squeeze 230bhp out of the block when I get my Microtech..... (if 230 is possible)

Thanks chaps!

according to the yank forum,im sure the hesitation is an earthing problem - but im not 100% sure

and the fuel pump - no idea - a TII pump should be good for 200 - 250 bhp - he says - im sure someone will prove me wrong ! :D

I was fairly certain I\'d heard it could be an earthing fault as well, got a feeling John(88GTR) said something about it awhile back..?

Hi,
Re-earth/use extra earths under the inlet manifold between the 2 sets of injectors. Try and get as many earths between the chassis and the blok and ancillaries. The egi secondaries are bigger ,@ 620cc i believe. TII fuel pump is crap anyway, and wouldn´t use that as an upgrade. 230 is possible with a bit of work;)

Thanks John!

Does anyone know where I can buy an earthing harness?

So you\'re saying the Egi actually has larger secondaries than the TII as standard?  Or are they just bigger than the primaries?  I looked long and hard at my injectors and never saw any external differences....

im sure the TII are 550\'s

and there is something to do with low and high impedence ???

Hmmm..thats pretty interesting.  Will have to look for an earthing kit or make up my own for sure, if problem persists then I\'m going to use it as an excuse for a microtech!  :D

Easiest to make your own... and cheaper. Use about 6mm thick core with the earthing eyes.

When I\'m next in the UK I will make one up and test it out.  Assuming it works it should cost around £5 to make.  I dont mind doing some drawings and a write up on what I have done, and yes if I get the time I will make you one too...

Who knows, perhaps I could start a small earthing empire.....

there are worse ways to make money !!

look at si - rather than buying a body kit - he wraps his car around summat and then gets the insurance to pay for it ?!??!?

Hmmmmm.........I\'m not sure taking after Si is a such a great idea....HEY!  Just to reiterate, I WILL NOT BE COPYING SCOOBI SI!!!! I DONT EVEN HAVE A HUGE LIBRARY OF SMILIES!

i had a similar thing happen to be honest

some guy backed into mine and scratched the bumper - mazda said it couldnt be sprayed and had to replace it

quick phone call to the guys insurance and they sent me a cheque for £700 and i got to keep the car

stupid me sold the car a week later for ..wait for it... 375 !! - what was i thinking

i then saw the car in a local garage for £1500 :(

sorry about the blurry pic - but you can see the damage about the mazda logo thingy !!

Thats a nice looking Egi!  Do you still see it around?

not seen it since the day i sold it ( and the once it appeared in a car garage )

it was featured in EVO mag or summat like that aswell

it was a fantastic car - really nice to drive

i think the engine was on the way out - it drank oil quicker than what i could put it back in !! - it did about a litre every 150 miles

i think the side oil seals were shot at :(

i would love to know who has it now though ???

I thought I recognised it, if it is the one that was in EVO then its long since died, guy who bought it thrashed the arse off of it for a trackday day, then sold it for about £400.

Unusual that it was drinking oil, normally they seem to stop drinking it then go tits, as you say must have been the seals.  What was the mileage?

i bought it from the guy who did the EVO artical !!

well actually no - here is the story

1 - guy buys it
2 - he does the evo thingy
3 - his mate buys it
4 - i buy it from him

then found out ( point 3 ) he only paid about 600 for it - i paid 900 :( - lesson learnt at that point

but i got 700 from the insurance and 375 for the car - so i made a profit in the end :)

I always find it a worry these days as to what my insurers would pay out in the event of it being written off.  If they go on market value it could be anything between £400 to £2500, and you know they\'d go for the lower amount...

Regarding point 3)  That was around the time when Rx7\'s had literally dried up, none for sale for ages?  Ex&M void of Rx\'s autotrader maybe had 1 every few weeks?  Twas a sellers market back then, not the case now though, cant even give \'em away some times.

I cant really do that until I get a respray done.  Annoying really as I\'ve spent about £3500 on the bloody thing and it still looks like a turd.  Still once its had the surface rust removed, the rear arches redone, all the pin dents removed and a full respray I\'m sure it will look ok.....

There were a couple of worry areas on the box sections last summer, so I cut \'em out and made up some new sections and welded them in.  Have waxoyld throughout the chassis now and painted waxoyl everywhere I can get to, and sprayed it on where I cant!!!
Other than rust appearing around the wings now the car is not bad for rust.

You still having grief with yours then?

dont ask !

So you are a dab hand at welding then ???

I\'d be minus my rex anyway, we\'re flying into Manchester from Guernsey.  Besides, west sussex to Manchester and back would cost about £250 in fuel!!!  :rollin
