Title: Trying to stall?
Post by: Flat_Steve on September 22, 2004, 06:18:01 PM
Driving home from work (6 miles) I stopped off for money, but after restarting the car it would try to stall if I pressed the throttle more than one third.  Oil pressure, temp, idle are all ok, and it starts fine and is running otherwise smoothly.  It doesn\'t seem to have any problem revving when stationary...  So what could be causing this?  O2 sensor?  Clutch?

maybe map sensor, if idol is bad also?

That\'s the thing, idle\'s perfect, it\'s just more than one third throttle when moving that does it...

I had a similar problem on my 1st Gen 7. I know there are alot more things on the later models to consider but on mine it was just an old fuel filter.

Once I changed the fuel filter it was fine. Sounds very similar. Mine would rev fine when stationary but once there was load on the engine it would lose power and then stall completely.

Hopefully it will be something as simple in your case too.

Fuel filter eh?  Hmmm...  The garage that recently serviced my FD said they hadn\'t replaced the fuel filter as RX-7\'s don\'t have them... :(

Wouldn\'t be at all suprised if that\'s what it is!!  Thanks Mr Slugg!

After you\'ve changed the filter (Which should be done every 10-15k I think) take the old one and shove it up the a*se of that garages manager.  They clearly know nothing about any cars, let alone a high performance one. Them saying it doesnt have one actually translates to \'We couldn\'t find it\' or \'We found it but thought sod that its a pain to get at\'.

 >rant over<

Sorry garages like that really irk me.

Get the filter changed asap, you dont want to be running lean at any point!

Will do!  It was a Jap Import \'specialist\' local to me who shall remain nameless!  Will use Hyeline in Cardiff from now on as they\'re Rotary specialists!

I know the sort, there\'s been a great deal of \'specialists\' cropping up in the last 18months or so, and whilst many of them are indeed \'special\' I dont think I\'d trust 1/10 of them to hold a screw driver the right way round.....

Ah rite!  Who\'s Pip and how do I go about buying a fuel filter from him?  They\'re £35 from Mazda...
