Will they fit a fd without much modification?
Could do with reply a bit quickly!
Cheers Scott
You would just need bells and brackets made up to fit. ;)
Fish
fish, will they be much more difference or benefit over the stock capilers/disks?
Scott
I think its 993 calipers/discs that Max has on his FD? Max??
Apparently i need 18" wheels to accommodate these calipers and disks!
Does this sound right?
Scott
Wheel size requirement depends on the size of the disc. You can get 355x32mm discs and AP 6 pots under 17\'s. :D
Get the size of the discs and this will give you an idea of what size wheel you need.
As for will thy be an improvement over stock, I wold say YES.
It also comes back to how much they want for them!
Fish
Sorry Scott, dont know - can confirm Max has 18" Volks\' tho...
Think ill give it a miss, by the time a get brackets and bell housings and maybe new pads i mite as well save up and get new!
When i first seen them they were at £340, the\'ve jump £100 now!

Scott
That price is still a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a Brembo GT kit...
The bells would cost somewhere around 150 for the pair, mounting brackets would cost up to 100 quid, then brake lines say 50 quid.
The only problem being getting somewhere good to do the work.
Fish
Yes, Max is def on 18\'s
Huge discs on front will probably throw the balance out with the rears needing attention then.
Here\'s my setup:
Porsche 993 Turbo calipers(Brembo) and disks.
Movit adaptor kit to fit to FD.
Brake balance and pedal feel remain very close to stock.
You might be able to squeeze them under a set of 17 inch rims - just!
Max
Gary, you are going to upset the person trying to follow you with brake setups like these, as you would be able to slow down/stop in time, but thy wouldnt. ;)
Max, what size discs are they?
Fish
322mm Fish :)
Not an expert on brakes, so.........
In straight line can understand big brakes stop quick,
but.........
Been reading a little (dangerous thing)
When braking into a corner if its all front doing the work you are going to be transfering more wieght to front of car, therefore lightening the rear, loss of grip.
Someone enlighten me please..........
Yeah but you dont generally brake into a corner. Sometimes on track I will, but 90% of the time ill sort out all my braking in a straight line.
Just changing the front could give a bad balance though.
Thanx for the response guys but im ditching that idea and spending my cash on somthing else.
Scott
Max, there tiny... :D
Gary, as Lee said it\'s very rare that you would still be braking when turning into the corner. It should all be done by then. That\'s unless you want to drift it. ;)

To add to the brake balance thing...
I recently changed by front disks and pads and then a week or so later changed the rear pads. Fronts had bedded in mostly and rears had done about 10 miles.
Breaked heavily coming up to a roundabout and rear end started to come round. Not hard to control but a bit unnerving. Once rears had bedded in there\'s been no repeat (even on track)
This was breaking in a streight line hence being easy to control.
Therefore if the balance is way out you will get some of this happening. It would probably be a good idea to put some decent pads at least on the rears if upgrading the fronts to this level, probably replace the rear disks too.
Just my opinion though.
Iain
those 993 brakes look nice... :cool
Just out of interest - how much is a set of standard Mazda discs and pads, and are they available through a dealer?
Thanks!
Luciano, you have PM.
If you wanted to decrease the risk of unbalancing the car during braking then you could resize the rear discs. (E.g put larger discs on the rear to increase the amount leverage) However you will need a new mount etc for the rear caliper\'s too.
Just my 2p worth
Anybody know the price of std discs and pads?
I recently renewed my front disks and pads with ones from brake line factors in Sheffield. The disks were made in Nottingham and the pads are lucas. I think thought they where too cheap to be any good: pads 16 quid a pair! disks 39 quid each.
Then I did a track day at Spa and what a diffrence they made, even pushing into the ABS at the end of the back straight a few times had no effect on them. I had previously thought of upgrading to big brakes, but deffinately wont bother now, and at these prices if you decide they aren\'t good enough you havent wasted much cash.
It also showed how poor worn disks and pads can be, after all the standard setup produced the fastest stopping car of its time.....
