Title: rough bodyshop prices
Post by: Clover on September 21, 2004, 12:15:09 PM
Hi all

When my bodykit was fitted and spray by the previous owner it sprayed while on the car, so the joins were sprayed over.  This is now starting to crack.  what sort of price am i looking at to put it right?  Ive never used a bodyshop so dont really know how pricey these jobs are.

thanks.

I found it varied all over the place.  My boyfriend needed to get the side of his 200sx resprayed a while ago and the best quote he could find was over £2k.  Went to somebody across the road from work though last month and they did the side of his car, side skirts and spoiler plus the rear bumper and wing of my RX7 for £500.  You just need to shop around and see if you can find a friend in the trade to get the best deal.

Shop around by all means, but from experience I can honestly say that with vehicle bodywork you often get what you pay for.

If its too cheap to be true, its not true - look at other cars they\'ve sprayed, think about what might happen if your job isn\'t to the desired standard, will they paint it again.  Will the company still be around (and pleased to see you) in 6 months when the paint has flaked off your body kit due to bad adhesion caused by poor preparation/incorrect primer used.

etc etc

Tis true, you get what you pay for. There are some quality places though who do not carry large overheads. I have a friend who is simply superb down my way if you want to travel.

I\'ve been quoted between £1800-2200 for a full rub down, rust removal and respray at a place in lancing. (near worthing)

Had a look at some of there work and it was pretty good.

Maybe we should attempt to compile a list of decent bodyshops in each area?  People could post their experinces in a similar way to the tuners sticky.

I\'m sure there are enough people who\'ve had resprays or need them done to make it a worthwhile thread?
