Title: Delay in wiper action
Post by: G6 GSD on September 20, 2004, 11:15:21 PM
I have an intermittent problem on my convertible that is puzzling me....

Before I start the engine, my windscreen wipers always work ok. Once I start the engine, sometimes they will work, sometimes, there is a second or two delay before working, sometimes there is a large delay of up to 10 minutes i.e. I turn on the wipers and drive around for 10 minutes before they will do a sweep of the screen. During the summer, they were mostly ok.
Linked to this is the convertible roof. When the wipers won\'t work, the roof won\'t open or even make the beep-beep sound. As soon as the wipers start, I can turn off the wipers, pull in and open the roof.

The wipers, roof and hazards are all on the same control stick. I\'ve never had any problem with the hazards.

The cruise control and vacuum guage also seem to only work when it wants to, but appear to be independant of the wipers.

I\'ve had this problem for over a year, but it\'s a bit dodgy driving without wipers, so I\'d appreciate any ideas on what I can do to fix it?

Thanks,

First off I\'d replace all the relevant fuses by your feet in the car.  I honestly dont think its a relay issue (I\'m assuming that once working you have all the windscreen wiper functions) It sounds more like someone has butchered the loom at some point, either to fit an alarm or a stereo.  If you can have a look behind the radio for bodged wiring, its usually the culprit.  Out of interest has the passenger side window switch stopped working too?
