picked up my \'93 rxy type R a couple of week ago from a trader, yesterday i was driving along (for 10 minutes from cold) when coolant start leaking into the passenger footwell! - the heater matrix had failed! - the AA bloke came out and bypassed it - and filled up with water, he then followed me for a few mile and we stopped to check again, this time white froth started bubbling out when he took the filler cap off.
he reckons there is a problem with the engine seals, which is putting excess pressure on the coolant system which had found the week point (the matrix)
i had booked the car in to a mazda specialist today for a good check over and full service anyway with me only just buying it. he is checking the car over today and going to right me a report on his findings....
the car came with a 3 month warranty, if it is engine problems does it mean rebuild time? and should i ask the a refund?
If the water seals have gone, then a rebuild will be needed.
As for should you get your money back or not, only you can make that decesion. But if the quality of the rest of the car is good, then I would go for a rebuild. At least then you should have another 60k miles of happen driving.
Fish
As Fish says really, although i expect you are very disappointed as nobody expects problems this early, however depending on how much you paid for the car you can do 1 of 2 things, which is either ask for your money back or get the rebuild done???
If you have paid 8k plus i\'d ask for your money back as you can purchase rx7\'s with recent rebuilds for around that amount, otherwise add extra 2.5k to what you\'ve already spent bro:(
Theres the Northern meet tonight if you can pop over do so for a chat, obviously not a good idea to bring the rx but if you can just attend it would be advisable.
Gurj:wave
cheers,
had the car checked over and - there is water in the oil and oil in the water. rebuild time then? :(
nightmare, only had the car 2 week, guy said the only fault was a broken door handle, think ill be asking for my money back
oh and i posted up about a whirring noise from the transmission last week, and that turns out to be the gearbox bearings worn. although the trader i bought it of is willing to give me £500 towards this.
You could get your money back, but you obviously liked the car so maybe its worth letting them get it fixed and then you at least know its ok?
Lee
Surely owning the car only 2 weeks, the dealer should pay for all the things wrong with it?
Get him to pay out for it peccy or ask for your money back.
Dan!!
Oh dear - this sounds familiar....
Is the car a black K plate, with a long UK style (as opposed to square) number plate?
If so, then I know the car.
He was willing to let me have it for £4000 (!) and said the only fault was a passenger side door handle, and a problem with one of the electric window switches.
It was on ebay a little while ago and advertised elsewhere as well. The other interesting thing is that the same car was advertised by 3 different people in 3 different locations.
In the end, despite the price, I walked away.
Anyway, I\'m sure once the car is sorted you\'ll be happy as larry. As has already been said, at least once you\'ve had a rebuild you\'ll know the car is going to easily see you out no problem. This is useful because then you can mod your engine without worrying about reducing the life of the engine, because it will have loads of life left.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
Dont let the ownership become a nightmare, get your money back!!!!:reallymad
