Title: Turbo 2 Exhaust.
Post by: Grizzly on September 12, 2004, 09:26:07 PM
I have just found out why Rx7 T2\'s have two cats and two Box\'s.

I have made a 3" exhaust from the Turbo back to a 2.5" Y into two N1 box\'s.

To say it is loud would be a masive understatement, i had been running the car with just the two cats (Everything back removed) and that is not even close to what it sounds like. i had six complaints in as many minutes:)

So i\'m having a bit of a rethink, The Box\'s have those silencer things but to be honist they dont do alot.

The good thing is though with the 1000cc\'s it looks like the November the 5th in the mirror.

O well its all part of the learning curve.

Could\'ve told you that one! :rollin

I\'ve got a striaght through job on the Egi, at start up it sets off car alarms and amde my neighbour call his kids in \'cos he thought there was a thunder storm.....
.....Its great for driving through tunnels though, nothing else sounds like it.   :cool

Mine is a single straight through sports exhaust and I can\'t drive it without the baffle in it!

Let me guess GMAN, unbelievable reverbaeration inside the car at 3000rpm?  Or is that just \'cos I\'m still using my Hurley >spit< midsection?

U got it, gives me a headache if i drive it for more than an hour.

Thats true!  But, if you drive at 60 in 5th, not much noise..... now thats an interesting way to get fuel econemy!

The reverb\'s odd though, cos by the time you reach 3300 its normally gone, and you get the other much higher pitch tone, I tried alsorts to get rid of the reverb and nothing really inproved it much.

LoL :rollin

when I bought my 323 it had a huuuuuuuuuge straight through back box on it, drove it all the way back down the A1 with the windows open to relieve the sound waves inside the cabin which made my ears go funny. took about 2 days before i took it for a new back box to be fitted.

Carl does a good range of quiet back boxes I am led to believe (the 1st gen is getting one)

It may sound daft but i\'m kind of getting used to it.

It sounds realy smart but the local 5 0 seem to be taking more notice:(

I have a bit of an advantage i have a place called JP Exhausts on my door step who do some nice Rx7 stuff.

I dont get to drive either of my rex\'s that often any more (I\'m working on Guernsey, my rex\'s are in UK) but just turning the key in the EGi brings a smile to my face.  Blip the throttle and the body rolls a bit, the birds take flight from the fields etc etc....

And its great for making the Saxo fraternity sod off at the lights, one blip and before the needles back to idle there pretending they werent trying to burn you out  :rollin

Theres loud ones and theres straight through ones, I know what I prefer!!!

Quoteneedles back to idle there
Idle? What\'s that? oh you mean when the revs stick at 2000-2500? :rollin :rollin :rollin  that\'s what I love about a BridgePort!:D  I just need to get the mid silencer removed and I\'ll be happy, I\'ve got twin 2" SS rear pipes with silencer boxes but I feel that I don\'t get enough noise with the mid silencer in place I only attract attention at 50 yards at the moment and being a bit of an attention junky I need more volume!

I wonder how much different the exhaust note is between the Egi and TII?  (Might have to post a few sound files when I\'m next in the uk.)

I\'d imagine they\'re fairly different due to the presence of the turbine\'s?

If it helps i have heard a NA with no exhaust on and i would say it does sound louder than a T2 but the turbo does take quite alot of the Raspyness off it (But it does sound very raspy), I just love the sound of the Turbo spooling down when you rev it.

I have spoke to a guy i know well who tunes and Races P/P rotarys in the US, he says he run\'s his with a single box, the reason he gives is on high overlap engine trying to shut it up looses you large amounts of power, it also helps with the overlap at low revs when the Exhaust presure is reduced.

I guess on a quiet day you could proberly hear that thing from hear.

I would\'nt say mine is that raspey, not until around 5500-6000rpm anyway.  I had it idling in a carpark in Brighton once, warming it up for the journey home and some **** asked me what size V8 I was running!  I admit it does sort of \'throb\' at low rpm (read 700).

I\'ve just ordered a center box for mine but i am loving the look on peoples faces when you WOT it of the lights.

This is how loud my car is at this moment, i have been driving about for the last day or so just out of intrest i had a quick look over it (just to make sure there was no cracks or leaks) and found two of the three Exhaust to Turbo nuts had vanished and the last one was very slack. So it had a bit of a leak which i had not noticed. :D

Anyway the only thing to come out of that was a slightly less raspy sound.

I always thought it was for making them cringe at the amount of money they\'d spent on their new Audi, only to beaten hands down? :D

Its true though, I would\'nt think twice about really giving my EGi some stick, the FD\'s another story though.

Mine is pretty tame, and reasonably comfortable... until the wastegate opens, and all hell breaks loose:D  BTW open vented wastegate.

Just got a txt from my dad, he used my Egi for his run to work  today, picked up a mate on the way.  By the halfway point his mate was feeling sick and had a migrane!
Apparantly his mate is not looking forward to the journey home this afternoon :rollin

Why do I get the impression the ol\' Egi was being given some stick down the lanes.............:bandit

:D :D :D :D :D
