Title: 12A Elford Turbokit
Post by: Totte on September 12, 2004, 12:52:45 PM
Hello!

Just bought a 12A -84 with an Elford Turbokit to put in my vw beetle. I also got a "Elford MCU for mazda RX7" but no info on how to connect everything... so does anyone have a schematic or something so i can get the engine running! :) there are 7 cables coming out of the MCU, 1 red, 1 blue, 1 brown, 2 grey and 2 black ones...  Maybe someone has the same MCU and can help me?

Thanks! :)

Hi,
I have an elford engine for my kit car, from memory the only electronics that Elford fitted was a black box that beeped when you reached 8psi of boost.  Some of the models had a kind of boost cut but it never worked properly from memory so the models without it were better.  Elford use two pressure switches which are on the engine at the flywheel end, they are two small white round things. One is 8 psi for the above mentioned buzzer the other is half a PSI which switches a solanoid in the vacume advance line to stop the distributer from advancing the ignition, thats the only modification that elford did to the stock set up, even the fuel pump was standard 1st gen.  Hope this helps

aha, i thought that the box would do something more than beeping and dimming the lights :)  but i would really like to know how to connect the box to the rest of the car, ie pressure switch and so.

antnicuk: what kitcar do you have? i also have one, vw based called RPB GT2...

The Elford kit is a full "mechanical regulated" kit.... no electronics required :)

No electronics means less problems ;)
