Title: Grind whilst idleing
Post by: Brad on September 10, 2004, 11:49:30 PM
Hi guys,

Today whilst idleing at some traffic lights I noticed a grinding/knocking noise coming from the engine bay, oil pressure gauge does what it wants anyway, always has done, but I checked the oil on the dipstick and it was fine.

Car drives normal, still nice and smooth and no loss of power, the grind only seems to appear when the car is idleing and only then starts after about 20 seconds of being sat up.

Any ideas?

Cheers all,

Brad

if its when the clutch in up and disappears when pushed down sounds like the clutch/thrust bearing.

Well, went out in the car first thing this morning and drove all day.  Plenty of stopping and starting, gear changes and a bit of motorway cruising and nothing, not a peep.  The problem (whatever it was) seems to have corrected itself.  My mate Welsh_Dan who also drives a rex thinks it could be the clutch getting a bit warm and tempermental.

LOL Panic aborted!

Found that I had sucked a small piece of plastic into the bay and this was rubbing and shaking about, that\'s why I could only hear it on idle.  :D

Removed the crap and everything is back to normal.

Phew!
